Diction or Syntax?
Anadiplosis involves the manipulation of the placement of a single word from the end of one clause, to the beginning of another. Therefore, anadiplosis is a form of syntax because it deals with the arrangement and style of the sentence, not the individual word choice.
Anadiplosis is used for emphasis of the repeated word. When using anadiplosis it is clear what the focus of your thought is because you are repeating the same word twice in close succession. The repetition also has a reinforcing effect.
Examples:
"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you."
"I am Sam, Sam I am."
(Dr. Seuss, Green Eggs and Ham)
(Frank Oz as Yoda in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menance)
