The pansies belonged in the first row because they prefer shade, the sunflowers in the second row because they like a bit of light, and the hydrangeas in the third row because direct sunlight is the best for them.
A monocot plant has a single cotyledon. The cotyledon contains all of the endosperm. When germination occurs, the cotyeldon sprouts hair-like roots and begins to grow into a bulb. Next, the cotyledon will break open, and as the leaves begin to grow upwards, it will remain below the soil. A monocot's roots will continue to grow down, sort of similar to how a tree's does, with many roots branching from the bulb.
I selected the high pH because it seemed to be the best choice as a compromise on the individual plants needs. At this level all of the flowers grew fairly tall, but the pansies grew purple/blue but the hydrangeas grew pink. Based on my observations, a lower pH may have been better for/or at least produced blue instead of pink hydrangeas. But, overall, I think the lower pH would not have been the better choice because it wouldn't be as good for the sunflowers or pansies.
A dicot has many cotyledons that all contain endosperm. The germinatio of a dicot begins with the growth of a single root that grows downwards, providing more room for sub roots. The rootsthen grow in a hair-like way, remaining attached as the stem grows upwards. Eventually the stem will break through the soil and begin to develop leaves.
When I turned off gravity the plants were very unhealthy. They drooped and curved into awkward positions and wer not as green or lively as they were with gravity.
The sunflowers and pansies were dicots, I know this because they developed a taproot. The hydrangeas were monocots, I know this because they begain with hair like roots.
The best level was 2cm., it allowed for all of the plants to be very healthy. I chose 2cm. because although sunflowers could withstand drought conditions, hydrangeas preferred to be watered everyday(though not necessarily a large amount) so 2cm. seemed like a reasonable compromise.
I used the correct amount of water on the first try. At 2cm. the plants grew pretty tall in height and the hydrangeas produced pink flowers while the pansies produced blue/purple flowers.
If I plant a garden of pansies, sunflowers, and hydrangeas in soil with high pH and water all of these flowers with two centimeters of water each day, all three types of flowers will grow healthily. I believe this to be the correct pH because it seems like a good compromise between the pansies' desire for "slightly acidic soil", the sunflowers' desire for "rich soil", and the hydrangeas' ability to adjust to different pH, although it does adjust the produced flowers' color. For the water, I think this is a well thought out hypothesis because I went for a good compromise between the hydrangeas' thirst for "daily rain or watering" and the sunflowers' ability to "withstand brief drought conditions", however this hypothesis is not supported by any background of pansies' watering preferences.
