  • Varies between states
  • Most require an MSW but some will accept a BSW
  • As well as an MSW an LCSW may be required
  • To open your own agency or work independently from an agency an LCSW is required

  • About 330,000 cases cited as neglect
  • From 2009-2010 to 2010-2011 there was a 19% decrease in children going into foster care
  • 115,000 children awaiting adoption in 2010
  • Involvement with the families

Adoption Social Work

  • facilitate the adoption process between the adoptive family and biological family
  • may work with finding foster homes for abused or neglected children
  • recently the main focus has been family preservation
  • help families strengthen their coping abilities to avoid out of home placement
