The cell is like

a fast food restaurant

Cell wall

The cell wall in the cell is like the the walls in a restaurant. The main function of the cell wall is to provide support and protection for the cell. The walls in a restaurant also provide support and protection.

Cell Membrane

The cell membrane of a cell is like the doors to the kitchen. It let's employees in and out but keeps out unwanted people out just like the cell membrane. The cell membrane keeps unwanted material out while keeping needed materials in.

Mitochondria

The mitochondria in a cell is like the stove/oven range in a fast food restaurant. Mitochondria use energy from food to make high-energy compounds that the cell can use to power growth, development, and movement. Stoves and ovens use energy (electric or gas) to make foods that are high-energy compounds and that the consumer can use to power growth, development and movement.

Vacuoles

The vacuole of a cell is like the refrigerators at a restaurant. The vacuole in a cell stores food, water, metabolic wastes and toxic. The refrigerators in the fast food restaurant store ingredients, drinks and foods.

Ribosomes

Lysosomes

The ribosomes in a cell are like the chefs in the fast food restaurant. The ribosomes in a cell make proteins and the chefs in a fast food restaurant make food. Ribosomes produce proteins following coded instructions that come from the nucleus. The chefs make food coming from orders sent from the waiter/waitress.

Lysosomes in the cell are like janitors in a fast food restaurant. Lysosomes are small organelles filled with enzymes, one thing lysosomes do are breaking down lipids, carbohydrates and proteins from food into particles that can be used by the rest of the cell. Lysosomes remove debris that will pile up and clutter the cell. Janitors also clean up messes that will also pile up and clutter the restaurant.

Nucleus

The nucleus of a cell is like the manager at a fast food restaurant. The nucleus in a cell controls all cell activity and the manager at the fast food restaurant controls all the activity happening in the restaurant.

Endoplasmic Reticulum

The endoplasmic reticulum is like the register desk at the fast food restaurant. The endoplasmic reticulum is the organelle in which components of the cell membrane are assembled and some proteins are modified. The register desk at a fast food restaurant is where your order is put together and also where you make your corrections if your order isn't correct. They are both alike because they're both areas where things are assembled and modified.

Golgi Apparatus

By: Kathy Dang

Period 1

The golgi apparatus is the person who puts together the meals. The enzymes in the golgi apparatus attach carbohydrates and lipids to proteins. The person who puts the meals together put everything all together in a meal.

Cytoskeleton

The cytoskeleton in a cell are like the ceilings, walls, doors and roof in a fast food restaurant. The cytoskeleton in a cell helps maintain the cell shape and also is involved in many forms of cell movement. The ceilings, walls, doors and roof are all needed for the structure of the building and the cytoskeleton is needed to maintain the cell's shape.
