The British warships arrival in savannah River in January 1776 caused the first crisis in savannah. The council of safty convinced that savannah was the object of the british incursion placed governor Wright under house arrest and instructed colonel Lachlan Melntosh to take charge of the defense of the city. The Battle Of Rice Boat was on March 2-3 1776.British marines seized rice-laden merchant ships in the savannah habor which was mostly burned by the militia.The British fled with only some of the rice and governor Wright and his chief concilors
All though Georgians did not agree with British trade laws, some still hesitated to join the revolutionary movement that emerged in the American colonies in the early 1770 and resulted in the American Revolution War (1775-83) .The reason for this hesitation was because the colony was under royal rule and many Georgians thougth that they need the protection of British troops aganist a possible Indian attacks.
