Family's Story (Dad's Side)
- My grandma did not grow up with her real father
- Her mom married and they gave her his last name
- My grandma had four step sisters
- My great grandma was wealthy and owned many properties (land, houses) in Michoacan
- However, her husband hired a lawyer and took all of the money for himself and his daughters
- He kept both houses and the farms
First Family Members in the United States
- My parents and my mom's siblings were the first to come (1990s)
- My uncle convinced them
- Easy to obtain citizenship
- Bush's Immigration Act of 1990
- Granting Visas and easy to become a U.S. citizen
- Pull: Better jobs opportunities
- Push: Hard to find a job in Mexico where one does not live paycheck to paycheck
- My parents first moved in with my uncle while they found their own place to live
- Took a while to adapt because of the different language and culture
Family's Story (Mom's Side)
- Both of my grandparents are deceased, as well as my great grandparents
- My grandpa's parents passed away when he was only 3
- He was the youngest out of 4 children
- They were raised by his aunt and uncle
- He was born in Michoacan, but moved to Mexico City to pursue a better job opportunity
- My grandparents owned a store in their hometown, but at the time Mexico City was booming and offered more secure and better paid jobs
- He built their new home from scratch
- Got a job at Equipamiento Fabrica Fisisa
- All of his sons were guaranteed, and got, a job there when they turned 18
