Antioxidant activity

• Cloves contains concentrated antioxidants that encourge a normal aging and immune system function and support cellular integrity .

Folk uses

Side Effects

• Stimulate the mind

• Treat acne , styes , sores

• Treat condition as malaria and cholera

• Liver protection

• Antibacterial

• Better digestion

• Over consumption can increase the risk of bleeding , so, it's not advised to eat so much clove

• Clove oil reduce the blood sugar level so patients that suffer from hypoglycemia must be contentious when using clove oil .

Digestive health

•Same people may experience an allergic reaction to clove , symptoms include rash , itching & shortness of breath

• Clove oil reduces gas pressure in the stomach and support the proper elimination of waste.

Bioactive substances

• Large doses of undulated clove oil can cause toxic effects including nausea , vomiting , sore throat sedation difficulty in breathing and seizures .

Oral health

- Clove oil is a traditional remedy of relieving toothache and oral discomfort

• Relieve stomach discomfort and can be effective against nausea . hiccups. sickness and vomiting

- The Eugenol in cloves depresses the sensitivity of receptors that register discomfort

Ways to Prevent It

  • Try not to litter in streams,lakes,rivers,or seas.
  • If you see any piece of litter on the ground, make sure its safe and if it is pick it up and dispose of it in a waste disposal system.
  • Products such as paints,oil,and cleaning materials should be stored and disposed off properly.
  • Use fertilizers and pesticides as far as possible.

Geographical Distribution

  • Currently , clove is cultivated mainly in islands of Zanzibar , Pempa , Amboiana , Sumatra .

Cultivation

- Clove trees are cultivated at max. altitude of 200 m above sea level in coastal areas & production of power buds starts after 4 years of plantation

-Evergreen of clove is to 20 meters height,Can be collected after 6 years and 3-4 kilograms can be collected

-Buds are white , then green finally crimson red

Harvesting

- Unopened flower buds

- After 6 years , take 15 – 20 years to full beaning stage

-Picked when rounded and plump 2 cm long

- Opened flowers not valued as a spice

Collection

- Collection goes From august to December.

-After Plant have been collected, stocks are being separated and Put on coconut mats to dry in the sun for three days.

Bioactive substances

- The plant loses 70% of weight after drying.

-Graded according to correlation , quality and packed into bales

- Tall evergreen plant about 20 meters high with leaves leatherly in texture

Decoction of clove

*Size : length varies from 12 to 17 mm

*Colour : dark brown

*Taste : pungent , aromatic

*Style : single and erect

*Buds have spherical head and subcylindrical hypanthium at the lower end

*Volatile oil situated in hypodermis

Blue color formed due to tannins
