Orson Scott Card writes, "'We are trying to save the world, not heal the wounded heart. You're too compassionate'" (67).

This is said from Major Anderson to Colonel Graff. This quote means to me that the adults think that they have to be tough and mean all the time. I think that Colonel Graff has a better point of view and that you should be compassionate around kids sometimes, not always just tough.

Card writes, "'I'm trying to solve this problem now, with the person Ender loves and trusts the most in the world, perhaps the only person he loves and trusts'" (145).

In this quote, Colonel Graff tries to get Valentine to help him figure out what "The End of the World" in the video game means.Earlier in the chapter, Card talks about how Valentine can persuade people to do what she wants, and I think that Graff uses Valentine's tactic to try and persuade her to help him. So, the adults can learn from the children and use what they learn to manipulate them.

As Card explains, "The adults are the enemy, not the other armies. They do not tell us the truth" (82).

As Card writes, "'Very good. My name is Dap. I'm your mom for the next few months.' The boys laughed" (40).

During this quote, Dap is nice to the anxious and scared new launchies making them feel welcomed for the first time. I chose this quote because I think that it explains how the adults and children could get along. In this book, a lot of times the adults and teachers are portrayed as bad people, but if they were a little nicer and more welcoming,to the children, they could have a better relationship.

This quote is how Dink Meeker explains to Ender his thoughts on the adults in the Battle School. I chose this quote because it shows perfectly how the children at the school feel. Many of the kids don't trust the adults because of their past lies

As Orson Scott Card explains, "Dap had a full room of friends. Frightened children are so easy to win" (40).

I chose this quote because it explains how children act in a new environment. Upon arriving at the Battle School, the kids were anxious and scared, but, because of Dap, felt a little more comfortable.

As Orson Scott Card says, "Since adults always sad it when it was going to hurt, he could count on that statement as an accurate prediction of the future" (2).

Orson Scott Card writes, "Isolate him enough that he remains creative-otherwise he'll adopt the system here and we'll lose him" (27).

As Orson Scott Card explains, "'So as soon as he can cope with a situation, you move him to one he can't cope with. Doesn't he get any rest?'" (66).

This quote is said by Colonel Graff to another International Fleet worker. To me this quote means that adults, especially the adults at the Battle School want control of the children and know just how to get it. Graff wants to restrain Ender because he knows what Ender is capable of.

To me, this quote explains how many children think that they can't trust adults because of what they say or what they have said in the past. Ender is extremely smart and has a good memory so he knows what other people, especially adults mean when they say things like "It won't hurt."

In this quote, Colonel Graff asks another IF worker about Ender and how they are going to work with him. This is an important quote because it explains how the adults at the Battle School manipulate the Battle School students into performing the way that the adults want them to.

As Card writes, "So he believed. Believed, but the seed of doubt was there, and it stayed, and every now and then it sent out a little root" (111).

In this quote, Card explains Ender's feelings about what Meeker had just told him. Meeker had just told him that he didn't believe that the buggers actually existed and that the Battle School students were just a ploy to keep the IF in power. This is important because now that Ender knows this he will loose more trust in the adults which will end up making him a less cooperative leader.
