The Four Perceptual Constancies
Perceptual constancy enables us to percieve an object as unchanging despite a changing stimulus
The four perceptual constancies are shape, size, color, and brightness

- depending on the angle of our view, an object whose actual shape cannot change seems to change shape
- percieve the form of familiar objects as constant while retinal images of them change
- percieved shape stays constant despite changes caused by the movement relative to the observer
Size
- perciveing objects as having a constant size, even while our distance from them varies
- percieving an objects distance gives us cues to its size which results in size-distance relationship
Brightness
Color
- the light that a surface seems to reflect gives a perception of the lightness of the surface
- the percieved brightness of an object remains the same despite changing conditions of illumination
- <http://www.psy.ritsumei.ac.jp/~akitaoka/light5e.html>
- the experience of color depends on the surrounding context
- <https://engineering.purdue.edu/~bouman/ece637/notes/ColorConstancy/color/>
- color will remain roughly constant as the lighting and wavelengths shift
- comparisons govern our perceptions
- we percieve the color of a surface to be the same, even though there are changes in shade
