Nova Stat-Strip Glucometer Nursing Related Care

Indication of Blood Glucose Monitoring

  • On-going management of blood glucose in patients with diabetes

  • Rapid detection of extreme blood glucose concentrations in patients who:

(coma, symptoms that suggest hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia)

  • Clean the meter after each patient use.
  • Perform QC with the appropriate control solutions (Discard the first drop).
  • Document QC results after each check any failed QC results and corrective actions.
  • Scan the correct patient HC number into the meter.
  • Document if necessary any intervention after checking test.
  • Inform physician about the result if necessary.

Nurse Role:

  • Who have diabetes

  • With post-op or post procedure

  • Hyperglycemia

  • Who are receiving medications which affect blood glucose concentration

Performing Nova Stat-strip Glucometer Test

What is POCT?

Point of Care Testing (POCT) is defined by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) as tests designed to be used at or near the site where the patient is located, that do not require permanent dedicated space, are performed outside the physical facilities of the clinical laboratories and that is performed by non-laboratory personnel.

Stat Strip Control solutions

  • The Stat Strip control solution is used to make sure that the strips and the meter working together properly .
  • 2 levels of controls : L1(LOW) & L3 (HIGH)
  • Solutions are good for 90 days

How to Perform Nova Stat-strip Glucometer test

Equipments:

  • Meter
  • Vial of Stat Strips
  • Vials QC Level 1 and 3 solutions
  • PPE (Gloves)
