DO NOT:
- Point with only one finger
- If you must point, use your whole hand, or gesture with your chin.
- Yawn in public
- If you must yawn, cover your mouth.

DO:
- Say "con permisso" (with permission, ie. excuse me) when trying to move through a crowd.
- It is polite to make small talk before any conversation.
- Use the greeting appropriate for the time of day:
- Morning- "Buenos dias"
- Afternoon- "Buenos tardes"
- Evening- "Buenos noches"
- At first meeting, greet with a handshake.
- Two men who are close may greet each other with a hug.
- Two women or a man and woman may greet each other with a quick kiss on the cheek, or a right-to-right cheek touch.

Making Conversation
In Ecuadorian culture it is common for friends to arrive up to an hour late for social gatherings. However, becasue we are representing People to People and the USA, we will be exected to be on time!
- Always say "por favor" (please) and "gracias" (thank you).
- Ecuadorians value respect for elders. Always address people with the correct honorifics, followed by his or her surname:
- Woman- Señora
- Man-Señor
- It is polite to maintain direct eye-contact during conversation.
- Physical contact is common.
