As we enter this amazing place let me give you some information about it.

This national park is located on Borneo in Sarawak, Malaysia.

This national park consists of two main natuaral wonders.

and

First let's talk about

Mount Api

Mount Api is famous for its awesome limestone karst formations that are commonly called Pinnacles.

These Pinnacles are stalagmite-like formations that have flat tips and are rough. Unlike stalagmites they "grow" on the outside of a mountain instead of inside a cave.

The Pinnacles are formed when carbon dioxide mixes with rainwater to form carbonic acid.

In chemical terms it's H2O + CO2= H2CO3.

The carbonic acid dissolves limestone and calcium carbonate to forms the pinnacles. This is chemical weathering.

Pinnacles are also formed when plant roots dig holes into the limestone. The plants then die and leave the holes that their roots made. This is an example of mechanical weathering forming Pinnacles.

There are also many other mountains with Pinnacles in Gunung Mulu National Park including the Mulu Mountain.

Now,let's talk about

The Sarawak Chamber

This concludes your tour , I hope you enjoyed it.

The Sarawak Chamber is a "never-ending hole". It doesn't have

as many stalagmites and stalactites as normal caves. The entrance of the cave is halfway underwater so it is partially damp.

This process sped up because of

the tropical rain forest climate. This

made the rock slab a cave.

The Sarawak Chamber was formed because of two processes. It was formed from uplifted rock that was unburied by water erosion and abrasion. Then, carbonic acid seeped in and made a vast hole in the rock by dissolving the limestone.

Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico

The Sarawak Chamber is the largest underground chamber in the world. It has a large volume and an unsupported roof span of 300 meters. It is huge compared to any other underground chamber.

Clearwater Cave

The Gunung Mulu National Park also has the Deer Cave (the largest cave passage) and the Clearwater Cave (the longest cave in Asia). Both are record holders.
