Leadership quote

My Leadership Philosophy

Leader Through time

Past:

Quote: "A leader leads by example, not by force"

By Sun Tzu

1) Food lab leader

In grades 9-11, I took cooking classes. the classes involved kitchens, where I did the best. i knew exactly what i had to do, so I assigned tasks for people to do while i tackled the main issues. I learned to distribute tasks evenly, based on prior knowledge

4) Deciding plans for after school

When makngi plans with friends, some of them couldnt make up their mind on what to do, so i stepped in and did it for them. i didnt really have a role in this example, but iwas makinf decisions. i learned that in order to make everyone happy, i would have to take into account the information needed, then i would make a decision.

My leadership philosophy is that leadership is determined by those before us. I chose this because it speaks to the way I want to lead. I lead the way I have seen people lead in the past. If a group in the past worked well together because of a certian tactic, then learning what it was and using it would be beneficial. Learning from past mistakes would also tie into the quote because those who have led before us, ran into mistakes/road blocks. Learning from these mishaps can better our future. To me, this statement means that we should remember how someone led a group, so we can build off of how they did things, or improve on some aspects that they could have been lacking in. Feedback also ties into this because feedback from group members will let you know what youre doing right sand what you can improve on.

2) Homework assignments

When doing group work in the past, sometimes i would divide up the tasks,so the main goal seemed more obtainable. i would either let them take on their own work, or decide for them. i would take this role when no one else would, and i learned that people work more effectively when they are given a checklist to work off of because they are more focused

Future

1) Assigning roles in class

In my cooking classes, I would assign roles such as washing dishes, cutting vegetables, or watching a an while I went to grab something. i was never elected the e of a leader, but i just took it up and kept on working. I learned that things go by smoothly if you separate tasks.

4) taking notes for my group

when presentations in class happen, i would take notes when no one else in my group would. It helps to retain any information given by the presenting group. The benefit/takeaway from this is that you know what info is important or not

1) Being the leader of my group

The time that i am leader will be difficult. Im not good at controlling people, and when it comes to talking to people one on one, i can be a pushover. The role of a leader has to be in charge and able to make calls that require critcal thinking

4) Doing my laundry

My mom trusts me with laundry by myself so i have to take responsibility for it all. this taught me how much i can fill the machine, and how much detergent i can use in the holder. Without these skills, i wouldnt be able to live on my own.

2) Leadership course

Taking this course is being a leader in a sense because im learning effective leading strategies. when leading a group, i will distribute tasks for everyone to work on and i will learn how to effectively communicate and organize the project

Explanation: To me, this quote means that you cant force people into doing what you want. You have to show them what you want/mean, and then they can work amongst themselves. Leading inst forcing, and vice versa. This quote is alot like " you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make him drink". It connects to leadership development because as a leader, you can come across as bossy or demanding. If you listen to the quote, then you can build stronger relations with your group members. I chose it because it relates to my method of leading. I dont order people around, I do the same work as them

2) Learning something new at work

Learning a new station at work is impotrant because it broadens my skills, and makes me more useful to the company. i have to follow the recipes, cooking yeilds, perfect presentation, etc. I will learn(have learned) how to be efficient and keep up with some co workers

3)Training co workers

When someone is hired, they need the basic training, and most often, i am the one who trains them. you need to have a good understanding of what you are training someone on. i learned to simplify the training method for the trainee so its easier on both of us

3) Helping people with homework

when asked for help with homework by some people, i help as much as i can. i can give studying tips, and where to find answers to questions in a textbook or website. I dont ow everything, but i will learn how to help peopleretain info so they dont need me to help them

3) Presenting in class

Giving presentations to my class was a regular occurrence, and although i hated it, it had to be done. i often choose to work alone because i couldn't rely on other people to do their end of the work. however, when I did have group members, it was easier and the outcome was much better. i learned that working with others lightens the load of work needed to be done.

This business class wasnt what I was expecting. I thought it wa going to be like ms. Morris' class i took in grade 11. Instead, it was a class that had me constantly afraid, stressed and defeated. During the time that I wasn't leader, I was afraid that I was going to be the leader, and was stressed about meeting expectations of my group members. I learned about the difference between managers and leaders, what true colors is. I also learned how to manage stress, build a team and motivate a group to make a well oiled machine. My leadership method hasnt changed. i felt the same way now, as i did back in the beginning of the semester. I dread leading because i dont like being in charge of people. I dislike making the plan of action for a group of people that i dont know. I cant keep them focused because i dont like taking them away from something they enjoy. I have to say that leadership is important to me because without leaders, people as a team would have no direction, and no work would be done. In a workplace setting, managers /leaders are imortant because they direct people under them.

Theme/Portfolio Explanation

The theme of this project is the classroom/ our classroom. I chose this theme because things we learn in the classroom can be easily transferred into the real world, which is the point of high school. I chose this format/order because of the way it is listed on the outline, starting with the leadership philosophy to this here.
