Hetch Hetchy
After
Before
Environmental Problems
- Flooding in large areas of land means that the natural environment is destroyed
- Causes serious geological damage
- Dams have been known to be breached
- Dams built blocking the process of a river in one country usually means that the water supply from the same river in the following country is out of control
- Building a large dam alters the natural water table level
- Earthquakes could cause dam to crack
- Farmers fields are drying up
How It Affects SVWC
- If Hetch Hetchy Dam is built, profit will decrease
- Go out of business
- San Francisco will no longer have us to depend on for water
- The city of San Francisco is trying to steal our profits
- We have limited rainfall for our reservoir
- Dams in any location may face critical effects from natural disasters. (I.E) Habitats and societies around face DANGER of communities loss, tragedy and economic deficit.

Against The Dam
Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park
The Spring Valley Water Company
Economic Problems
- Private Corporation
- Provides city of San Francisco with water
- Competed with San Francisco City Water Works
- In 1865 SVWC bought SFCWW
- SVWC became the only water provider for San Francisco
- Dams are extremely expensive to build
- Must be built to a very high standard
- High cost of dam construction means that they must operate for many decades
- Would not gain profit until decades later
- Demand for water exceed supply as San Francisco expands
How We Solve The Problem
- Lower water rates
- Find new water sources
- Better customer care
- Be able to keep a better pace with the growing city
