- Information will be conveyed through a presentation similar to this one
- The information for this lesson will include:
- The art movements in Spain throughout history, which include Barroque, Rococo, Cubism, and Surrealism.
- Picasso was born in Málaga, Spain.
- Picasso's paintings were largely from the Cubism and Surrealism eras and were often very abstract.
- The "Blue Period" was a time named after a stretch of Picasso paintings that were particularly depressing and mainly used cool colors.
- The "Rose Period" was where Picasso mainly painted pieces that included more light-hearted works with brighter pinks and oranges.
- The most famous paintings by Picasso include "Guernica," "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon," and "El Sueño"
Objective
- The students will be able to identify certain works of art painted by Picasso, pieces about Picasso's life, and certain art movements that occurred in Spain.
- This lesson is important to teach because it teaches students about a large piece of Spain's history and culture.
Diario
- Students will complete this at the beginning of class
- It will be: "Name any famous artists or art movements you know that originated from Spain"
Materials needed
Closure
- For their exit ticket, students will be expected to complete an ending diario.
- The ending diario will be: "Write down what your favorite part about Spanish art's history that you have learned from today's lesson."
Independent Practice
- The students will then be asked to complete a coloring sheet of one of Picasso's more famous paintings called "El Sueño" or "The Dream."
- In Spanish, they will be given the colors that were actually used in the original painting and will be expected to use those same colors to fill in the blank painting.

- Pablo Picasso is linked to our class because of the painting seen at the back of the room, which he created and is called "Guernica."
- Picasso is also linked to our class because he created a picture that was based off of the story we read called "Don Quixote"
- The students will be asked to complete a crossword that features important pieces of information about the eras of art that occurred in Spain, information about Picassso and his different phases of art, and some different paintings created by Picasso - all in Spanish.
