Sea turtles are large reptiles that range from color to color, such as green to yellow, or brown to black, and sometimes red. Their arms are shaped like paddles, for extra fast swimming. This adaptation helps them get away from predators.
Female sea turtles lay their eggs on a nesting beach, and about 6 weeks to 2 months later, tiny hatchlings make their way up to the sand and then head to the water. Their movements and whereabouts from this time to when they return to coastal waters are hard to track, therefore scientists do not know much about what they do during this time. That period of time is referred to as "the lost years."
Sea turtles have many adaptations, such as they have slow metabolisms. This helps them, because they can stay underwater for long periods of time. During long dives, they are also able to direct blood to tissue that needs oxygen, and not to tissue that is able to have less oxygen.
