Great Sioux War of 1876
- The war is also called the Black Hills War and it was a series of battles between 1876-1877.
- The battles were fought in the Montana Territory, Dakota Territory, Wyoming Territory between the Lakota Sioux and Northern Cheyenne against the United States.
- The land was rich in resources, like small game, and also a popular place to find gold.

- They were allies with the Lakota.
The Lakota Sioux
The Lakota is a tribe that lives in the northern parts of the US. The Lakota Sioux includes the Dakota tribe who is closely related.
- Fought June 25-26
- Custer and his men were going to surprise attack the tribes on the 26th but they went ahead on the 25th.
- Crazy Horse and his men eliminated Custer's troops forcing the survivors to a position on Last Stand Hill.
- Crazy Horse and his men took down Custer and the other attackers.
- Custer lost 267 killed and had 51 wounded.
- The Native Americans wounded/hurt were said to range between 36 and 300+.
- Sioux is pronounced "Sue".

The Lakota Sioux people included Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake (Sitting Bull) from the Húnkpapȟa band; Touch the Clouds from the Miniconjou band; and, Tȟašúŋke Witkó (Crazy Horse), Maȟpíya Lúta (Red Cloud), Heȟáka Sápa (Black Elk), Siŋté Glešká (Spotted Tail), and Billy Mills from the Oglala band.

Crazy Horse:
- Crazy Horse was a war leader of the Oglala Lakota.
- He was married three times, and had one child named "They are afraid of her". (she died at age three)
- "Crazy Horse, even when dying, refused to lie on the white man's cot. He insisted on being placed on the floor. Armed soldiers stood by until he died. And when he breathed his last, Touch the Clouds, Crazy Horse's seven-foot-tall Miniconjou friend, pointed to the blanket that covered the chief's body and said, "This is the lodge of Crazy Horse."
Crazy Horse Memorial is mountain monument in the Black Hills, in Custer County, South Dakota.

The chief of the Northern Cheyenne. He received the rank of sergeant in the United States Army.
How It Ended:
- large numbers of northern bands surrendered.
- Crazy Horse surrendered with his band at Red Cloud on May 5th. (He was later fatally bayoneted by a soldier.)
- Some groups took off to Canada and refused to surrender.
