- After negotiating with various Islamist tribes, Pakistani army was able to proceed through South Waziristan in 2002

2004: Peace deals with Taliban
- Pakistan signed the first of three peace agreements with militants in South Waziristan ("War in North-West Pakistan").

2005: Pakistani army Captures Abu Faraj al-Libbi
- Signed on September 5, 2006 in Miranshah, North Waziristan
- An agreement between tribal leaders and the Pakistani government to end all fighting ("History of the Taliban").
- Afghan Taliban leader, Sirajuddin Haqqani issued a decree that it was not Afghan Taliban policy to fight the Pakistan army
- Under the terms of the agreement, Pakistan's army agreed to withdraw from the areas controlled by the Taliban in Waziristan, and the Taliban promised to stop launching attacks against NATO and Afghan troops in Afghanistan and against Pakistani army and government ("War in North-West Pakistan").
- On May 4, 2005, Pakistani army captured a high profile member of al-Qaeda, Abu Faraj al-Libbi
- Abu Faraj al-Libbi is ranked the third highest official in al-Qaeda, behind Ayman al-Zawahiri and Osama bin Laden
- Arrested and held on charges for helping plan the 9/11 attacks and planning two assassinations ("War in North-West Pakistan").

- Multiple suicide bomber attacks against Pakistani troops were reported in July, 2007, killing approximately 100 Pakistani soldiers.
- These attacks resulted in the end of the Waziristan Peace Agreement ("War in North-West Pakistan").
- Osama bin Laden was located and killed by the U.S. Navy SEALs in Abbottabad.
- The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) vowed to avenge bin Laden's death upon the Pakistan's Armed Forces ("Osama Bin Laden Killed in US Raid on Pakistan Hideout").
