Goal and objectives #1

  • Goal: Learn how to search for jobs
  • Objective: The client will be able to search for jobs on his own by learning about the top job search engines. He will learn how to navigate these sites to find desired jobs. He will learn how to upload his resume on these job search engines to allow for potential employers to seek him out. He will learn how to use five different job search engines.
  • Target completion: October 5th

  • Goal: Gain confidence during the interview process
  • Objective: The therapist will work with the client on building his confidence in front of the potential employer. He will learn how to highlight his attributes and feel confident with his abilities to do the job. He will also learn to become less intimated by his age and the age of the potential employer. He will learn to incorporate his willingness to learn new tasks and computer systems during the interview process.
  • Target completion: November 23rd.
  • Goal: Learn to navigate technology
  • Objective: The client will conduct a search for adult education courses in technology that could help him feel comfortable with using different systems. He will also learn to search for YouTube videos that instruct others on how to use current technology. He will conduct a search on Cal Poly’s website to see if they offer their alumni online courses on technology. After conducting the research into these resources, he will settle for one option and begin learning.
  • Target completion: October 19th

History: Client was the sole provider of his family, and his wife was a homemaker raising their two sons. He values spending time with his family and takes pride in providing for his family.

Mental health: Mental health has not declined, and he does not display any memory impairments.

Physical health: He maintains a healthy weight, eats nutritious foods, and exercises regularly. He claims to have some discomfort in his joints and lower back.

Client's interests: obtaining a job where he does not have to report to the boards of directors, working in a stress free environment, and obtaining a job that will allow him to spend time with his family. He enjoys being a manager of a small company and helping the company grow.

  • Goal: How to make the client’s resume stand out
  • Objective: The client will learn how to summarize his skills and experience targeted to the requirements of the job. He will highlight training and certifications if they are pertinent to the position. He will learn how to highlight his college degree by not listing his high school education making the employer focus on the Bachelor’s degree. He will be given a referral for having his resume reviewed for errors and implement the changes.
  • Target completion: November 9th.
  • Goal: Learn how to fill out a job application.
  • Objective: The client will learn to read the entire application before he begins to fill it out, he will follow directions carefully, and he will double-check his answers before it is submitted. He will type or print neatly and avoid errors. If he is having a hard to with the online application, he will seek assistance from his family. He will avoid providing negative information on his application, such as personal, legal, or financial problems.
  • Target completion: November 16th.

Termination Plan

  • The vignette will be introduced
  • I will provide a brief assessment of the client
  • I will provide the goals and objectives
  • I will talk about my evaluation plan
  • I will provide my termination plan
  • I will allow for questions at the end

Conclusion

  • In 2-3 sessions prior to final session the therapist will remind the client of the end of counseling.
  • The therapist will ask the client what they want to work on for the rest of their time together.
  • The therapist and client will review the progress he has made.
  • The therapist will inquire about what the client has learned, what they found helpful about their session and how they felt about their participation in the process.
  • The therapist and client will review the tools and skills that the client learned.
  • After termination therapist will check-in with the client.
  • Therapist will encourage the client to return years later to refocus on his future goal of retirement

Work History: Rich worked for a small manufacturing firm for about 20 years. Rich was offered a position as a vice president of business development for a non-profit at age 45. Rich’s income was $105,260 per year.

Presenting Problem

  • Rich left his last job due to disagreements with the board of directors.
  • Rich has been using his savings and the earnings of his wife to pay the bills.
  • His wife of 43 years is a fitness instructor for senior citizens.
  • Rich will run out of his savings in six months.
  • Rich has had some promising opportunities recently, but he has been overlooked.
  • The positions were given to younger candidates.
  • In conclusion I introduced the client's vignette and the assessment of the client.
  • I provided the goals and objectives of the client.
  • I presented a way I will evaluate my interventions and provided my termination plan.
