Voltaic Pile battery has a negative effect on the environment.

The chemicals that compose the batteries cause pollution ,therefore, destroying ecosystems.

What is the Voltaic Pile composed of?

  • Copper Disks
  • placed on the bottom
  • positive end of the pile
  • An Electrolyte
  • ex. cloth soaked in salt water
  • ex. cardboard soaked in brine
  • Zinc Disks
  • placed at the top
  • negative end of the pile

The "voltaic pile" operated by placing an electrolyte between pairs of zinc and copper discs. This ¨pile¨ would reach around 30cm.

An electrolyte is a substance that produces an electrically conducting solution when dissolved in a polar solvent, such as water.
