  • When you video chat (ex. FaceTime) you directly call the person you want to talk to.
  • You can't call 911 or any stores with video chat.
  • For video relay services you call an operator and then they call where you are wishing to call.

  • Allows them to use ASL
  • Able to fully express what they want to say
  • Flows like a telephone conversation
  • Conversation can be much quicker
  • Conversations can be between English & Spanish speaking people.

  • Its a form of telecommunication relay service
  • Allows people with the hearing disabilities who use sign to communitate with voice telephone users through video equipment instead of typed text.
  • The operator is called the "communication assistant" (CA)
  • The video relay services user & the CA can have a signed conversation
  • The video relay user & the CA conversation flows better than text.
  • Video relay services are required 24/7

How does it work?

  • First you call the relay service from your TTY.
  • Then you type what number you want to call.
  • Then the operater has a phone & will call the number
  • You type whatever you want to say & the operater will talk through the phone
