Jazz dance was called "tap dancing" mostly because tap was a popular dance in that time.

Jazz Dance was popularized by choreographers such as;

- Bob Fosses

- Jack Cole

- Jerome Robbins

African slaves who were brought to America brought African folk dances along with them.

Katherine Dunham and other explorers brought cultural styles from the Caribbean and created another form of Jazz dance.

1817

1940's

In New Orleans, they established a place where the slaves can dance and play music. They called the place Congo Square.

Jazz is popularized on the dance floors and stages where popular swing musicians perform.
