J.J "Josie-Jo" Ford

D. Denton Deere

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to other characters

Partner and relationship

Judge Ford´s relationship with other characters is complicated. Most of the characters admire r but don´t like her a lot because of her criticizing attitude, " "Hello, Jake," Judge Ford said. A firm handshake, laugh lines around his eyes. He needed a sense of humor with that social-climbing wife." (Raskin, pg.68) Sandy is one of her closest friends. As Samuel Westing financed her education, she decided to finance some other kid´s education, Chris Theodorakis, "Her debt would finally be repaid--with interest; the money she received from the sale of her share of Sunset Towers would pay for the education of another youngster, just as Sam Westing had paid for hers." (Raskin, pg. 207)

J.J Ford´s partner is Sandy McSouthers. They have a really good relationship because they spend a lot of time together investigating the other heirs. Judge ford trusts a lot Sandy and also she is really generous with him, she would have quited the game but she had to continue because Sandy really needed the money. Also, she even gave her 10,000 to Sandy, " "No tips, judge, please, not after all you´ve done for the wife and me." The judge had given him the entire ten thousand dollars." (Raskin, pg.95)

Most of the characters think he is very intelligent and will be successful in life. Denton Deere is related to Angela Wexler because they are engaged,"Angela twisted the engagement ring her mother made her wear..." (Raskin, pg.86) Turtle doesn`t like him and tends to always kick him in the shin. Grace Wexler always talks about how wonderful he is, "Cheer up, Angie-pie, you`ll see your Denton Deere soon... Why did they ask always about Denton all the time, as though she was nobody without him?" (Raskin, pg.69) This means that her mother thinks that Angela always wants to be with Denton Deere but it is not true. At the end, after the game, D. Denton Deere marries Angela and they have a daughter named Alice.

Dr. Denton Deere´s partner is Chris Theodorakis. At first, they do not have a good relationship because Denton Deere was always busy, " Denton Deere protested but silently..." (Raskin, pg. 42) but throughout the story Deere starts to gain interest in Chris. He even gives him a treatment for his disease, " "Listen, Chris, can you hear me' Just overnight. I found a neurologist, a nerve doctor, who works on problems like yours"..." (Raskin, pg.132)

Clues:

SKIES, AM, SHINING, and BROTHER

Suspect to which clue might point:

Sandy and J.J Ford don`t really think the game is to find Samuel Westing`s murderer but to have vengeance and at first, by their clues they think the person Samuel Westing wanted vengeance was Dr. sikes (SKIES=Sikes). But after tey notice that the person Westing wanted vengeance was Crow because she was the one guilty for her daughter Violet suicide.

Prediction as to what the clue means:

Clues:

I think the clues have to do something with Chris or Theo Theodrakis because they are both BROTHERs and Chris always sees the SKIES because he is a birdwatcher.

FOR, PLAIN, GRAIN, and SHED

Suspects to which Clues point:

Chris and Denton Deere think the clues point to Otis Amber and J.J ford because they think that by GRAINS they mean oats as Otis and For as Ford.

Prediction as to what the clue might mean:

I think the clue might mean something that has to do with the fields and growing crops. Maybe a fromer farmer killed Westing. Maybe there`s someone`s past we don`t know about.

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Possible motive

Possible Motive

Relationship to Samuel Westing

A possible motive for J.J Ford to murder Samuel Westing might be because she might feel threatened by him, because as he payed for her education, she owed him something also, and to finish with that depth maybe the judge must´ve killed Westing. " "Sam Westing paid for my education, he saw that I was accepted into the best schools..." (Raskin, pg. 149)

Description:

J.J Ford is the first african american women judge in the United States. She has a really strong personality and opinions, she is really objective and everyone respects her because of her successful career. She has a great memory and has a special trait at judging people, " "Hello, Jake," Judge Ford said. A firm handshake, laugh lines around his eyes. He needed a sense of humor with that social-climbing wife." (Raskin, pg. 68) Samuel Westinf financed her education.

Judge Ford´s connection to Westing is that her parents were servants at his house and she also lived in his house, " "My mother was a servant in the Westing household, my father worked for the railroad and was the gardener on his days of." (Raskin, pg. 148) Also, Westing paid for her expensive education, " "Sam Westing paid for my education, he saw that I was accepted into the best schools..." (Raskin, pg. 149)

D. Denton Deere`s relationship to Samuel Westing is that his fiancé Angela Wexler is really similar to Violet Westing, "Angela looks like Violet Westing" (Raskin, pg. 117) Denton Deere never met nor knew Samuel Westing.

Denton Deere`s possible motive for killing Sam Westing is for gaining Westing`s fortune and try to convince Angela he is good for her and maybe with the money they may runaway from Grace together and make Angela feel more valuable and important, " Why did they ask always about Denton all the time, as though she was nobody without him?" (Raskin, pg.69)

Description:

Dr. Denton Deere is an adult which has an internship for being a plastic surgeon. He is really handsome but at the same time really clever, and responsible and kept perseverance and loyal in his relationship with Angela. "My darling Angela: I guess the sign on the door means I should stay away, too. I understand..." (Raskin, pg. 155) He´s a real expert at his job and he is always busy. After the game, he marries Angela and they have a daughter named Alice.

Douglas "Doug" Hoo

Relationship to other Characters

Partner and relationship

Sydelle Pulaski

Doug`s partner is Theo Theodrakis. At first, they didn´t get along very good but after the time past they became friends. They made plans to spy people and enjoyed spending time together and became really close friends, "They slapped hands, and Doug jogged to table seven." (Raskin, pg. 35)

Some characters saw Doug as a role model and some as a show off. Theo is one of his best friends but he also is friends with Turtle. Turtle think he is cute. Mr. Hoo is his father and Madam Hoo is his step mother. Mr. Hoo always wants him to study, "Why are you standing there like a statue' You are not everybody!" (Raskin, pg. 78)

Madam San Lin Hoo

Clues:

HIS, N, ON, TO, THEE, and FOR

Suspects to which clue might point:

A suspect to which Doug ad Theo thought their clues were pointing at is Otis Amber and that their clues says the recipe for a bomb. They think Otis Amber is the murderer and the bomber. (pg.121)

Prediction as to what the clue might mean:

I think these clues are just words to put together all the clues the heirs have. So if you use this words to unite all the clues of the heirs the answer for the game would come out by making a sentence or paragraph.

Description:

Possible motive

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Madam Hoo doesn´t have a connection to the other characters because as Mr. Hoo said on page 33, "My wife doesn`t even speak English." She is Mr. Hoo`s wife and Doug`s step mother. They say Mr. Hoo only married her for her recipes.

Madam Hoo`s partner is Jake Wexler. They have a good relationship even though they don`t talk a lot because of Madam Hoo`s difficulty to talk in English. Jake teaches Madam Hoo how to speak some words in English and supports her ideas, " "China", said Madam Hoo. "China?" sure, why not,"Jake replied. "China." " (Raskin, pg.69)

Sydelle Pulaski`s relationship with the other characters is strange. Anyone pays attention to her, " "No one ever notices Sydelle Pulaski," she muttered, 2but now they will. Now they will." (Raskin, pg. 19) Sydelles´ only friend is Angela Wexler because everyone else think she is weird and suspicious. At the end, she marries her boss Mr. Shultz the owner of Shultz sausages.

Doug is not directly related to Samuel Westing but his father Mr. Hoo did know him. Sam Westing stole Mr. Hoo´s disposable paper diapers invention, "Hoo sued Sam Westing over the invention of the disposable paper diaper. Case never came to court. Settled with the company last year $25,000. Thinks he was cheated." (Raskin, pg.101)

Description:

Doug Hoo is a high school athlete. He is really good at running but his father doesn´t approve it and only want him to study. He teases and always tells dumb jokes. Turtle thinks he is cute. He is about 16-19 years old. He is the one that doesn`t care about the heritage, "If he won or came in a fast second he`d have his pick of athletic scholarships. He didn´t need the inheritance." (Raskin, 124) In the future he wins a lot of gold metals in the Olympics.

A possible motive for Doug to murder Smuel Westing is for steeling his inheritance to go to a good college and have a good training for entering to the Olympics even though he clearly says he doesn´t need the inheritance, maybe it was an emergency or he wanted to have his future insured, "If he won or came in a fast second he`d have his pick of athletic scholarships. He didn´t need the inheritance." (Raskin, 124) Also, maybe he wanted revenge for what Mr. Westing did to his father.

Sydelle Pulaski`s partner is Angela Wexler. At first, while Angela was not very excited in being paired up with Sydelle, Sydelle felt blessed, "What good luck, the hobbling Sydelle Pulaski thought. Now she would really be noticed with such a pretty young thing for a partner. They might even invite her to the wedding. She'd paint a crutch white with little pink nosegays.2 (Raskin, pg. 42) As time went by they become really close and Angela really trusts Sydelle.

Clues:

OF, AMERICA, AND, GOD, and ABOVE

Suspects to which clue might point:

This pair didn´t really find someone in which the clue pointed at. I would think this clues point to Crow because she is really religious and american so you may organize the quotes in this way to point to Crow: America And God Of Above.

Prediction as to what the clue might mean:

As I said before, this clues might have a religious and patriotic meaning as they talk of America and God being above of it somehow protecting it.

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Clues:

GOOD, GRACE,FROM,HOOD, and SPACIOUS

Possible Motive

Suspects to which Clue might point:

Grace and Sydelle doesn´t really think the quote points to a person but to an object and at the end, they noticed that all the words in their clues belong to the song "America the Beautiful"

Prediction as to what the clue might mean:

Theo Theodorakis

The clues might mean and point to Grace Wexler because first, it has her name in the clues and also GOOD HOOD might mean like good social status which is what she might want to gain when killing Westing and spacious can be somehow money because you can get space like a house or more things like a house with money. So Grace Wexler might be the murderer.

Even though Madam Hoo is so innocent and defenseless she might have killed Samuel Westing to get the money for going back to China, " "For to go to China", she said timidly..." (Raskin, pg. 197)

Madam Hoo doesn´t have any relationship with Samuel Westing but his husband Mr. Hoo does because Mr. Westing stole his idea of disposable paper diapers, "Hoo sued Sam Westing over the invention of the disposable paper diaper. Case never came to court. Settled with the company last year $25,000. Thinks he was cheated." (Raskin, pg.101)

Description:

Madam Hoo is a very young and pretty chinese women who immigrated to the United States as Mr. Hoo second wife. She is the cook in the Hoo`s on first restaurant but she also is the Sunset Towers burglar, "Madam Hoo knew from the shifting eyes that a bad person was in the room. she was the bad person. They would find out soon." (Raskin, pg. 176) She stole things because she wanted to go back to China. She is really silent and innocent and doesn`t know what is going on most of the time. She is described in page15 as a "...small, delicate women in long white apron...". After the game, she changed the name to Sunny, learned English and continued the Hoo`s business.

Possible Motive

Relationship to other characters

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Theo´s relationship to other characters is really good. Even though he sometimes hide below the shadow of Doug Hoo everyone thinks he is a good kid. He is the son of George and Catherine Theodorakis and Christos`s Theodorakis brother. He was an exceptional brother who considers that being a brother is his position in life. Theo has a very big crush on Angela Wexler, "Theo nodded, awed by the beautiful Angela, three years older than he..." (Raskin, pg. 87) Although at the end of the book he marries Turtle.

Theo´s partner is Doug Hoo. At first, Theo felt he was always hiding behind Doug`s shadow and success and they didn`t like each other, "Like it or not we're partners, and you've got to do you're share." (Raskin, 25) As the time past by, they start to spend more time together talking about their clues and they become really close friends, "...they slapped hands, and Doug jogged to table seven." (Raskin, pg.35)

Sydelle Pulaski`s possible motive to kill Samuel Westing might be to get his money and to get more attention from her neighbors which as it said on page 19, "No one ever notices Sydelle Pulaski..."

Sydelle Pulaski has no connection to Samuel Westing. That is why Sydelle is the mistake, the person who should have been sent to live in Sunset Towers is Sybil Pulaski, "...Sybil Pulaski, to be one of the heirs. He got Sydelle Pulaski instead...Sam Westing made his first mistake." (Raskin, pg.140)

Otis Amber

Description:

Sydelle Pulaski is a mid-age women who works as a secretary. She is recognized because of her big hips and strange personality. She is never noticed at Sunset towers which makes her want attention and fake her injury in which she uses crutches, " "No one ever notices Sydelle Pulaski," she muttered, "but now they will. Now they will." (Raskin, pg. 19) Sydelle Pulaski is the mistake, the right person who should´ve lived in the Sunset Towers was Sybil Pulaski. After the game she marries her boss Mr. Shultz.

So if you use this words to unite all the clues of the other heirs the answer for the game would come out by making a sentence or paragraph.

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Relationship to other characters

Possible Motive

Description:

Theo Theodorakis is a high school student around 17-19 years old. He is a very good person, innocent, and overall generous, "Theo gave his $10,000 to his parents" (Raskin, pg.46) Also, Theo describes his position in life as a brother, "Maybe he should not have written brother, but like it or not, that was his position in life." (Raskin, pg.41) Theo´s dream is to have a good education and be a writer. At the end of the book, he marries Turtle Wexler.

Otis Amber`s partner is Crow. They have a really good relationship. As they don`t really care about the game, they spend a lot of time together at the Good Salvation Soup Kitchen. 30 years ater after the game, they even get married, " "A toast to the bride and groom"..."to Crow and Otis Amber!" (Raskin, 207)

Otis Amber`s relationship with the other characters is good even though everyone thinks he is really dumb because of his low IQ, " "Otis Amber is a stupid man, if not downright mad." " (Raskin, pg. 16) In his secret life as a private investigator, he worked for Barney Northrup, Samuel Westing, and J.J Ford. At the end of the book, he marries Crow and they love each other a lot, "Crow and Otis Amber had died two years ago, within a week of each other" (Raskin, pg.214) This might mean that they loved each other so much they couldn`t be separated.

Theo Theodorakis doesn´t have a direct connection to Samuel Westing but his father, George Theodorakis which not an heir, does. George was the person Violet Westing really wanted to marry and because her mother didn`t allow her to marry George, Violet killed herself, ""Father was childhood sweetheart of Sam Westing`s daughter...Violet Westing killed herself before the wediding." (Raskin, pg.143)

Theo Theodorakis possible motive might be that he might murder Sam Westing to take his money and to use the money to pay Chris`s treatment that was very expensive. This might be the possible motive because Theo is a really good brother as he says in the book in page 41, "...that was his position in life..." and would do anything for him even murder.

Clues:

WITH, THY, and BEAUTIFUL

Suspects to which clues might point:

Otis and Crow are not really interested on the game, they think it is just a waste of time and they only concentrate in the Good Salvation Soup Kitchen.

Prediction as to what the clue means:

I think the clues pint to Angela Wexler because as the clues say, she is BEAUTIFUL and as nobody would notice her or suspect her to be the murderer maybe you could arrange the clues: BEAUTIFUL plays WITH THY mind.

Angela Wexler

Possible Motive

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Otis Amber`s possible motive to murder Samuel Westing may be because Westing owed him money of his work he did for him as a private investigator. Maybe also, he found out things about him that made him want to kill him because he was his private investigator, " " Twenty years ago, after his wife left him, Samuel W. Westing hired me..." (Raskin, pg.191)

Description:

Otis Amber is a 62 year old delivery boy. He is really old and dumb. He is always happy and likes to tell jokes. Otis Amber is not who he says he is, he is not dumb, he is really bright, because he is really a private investigator hired by Barney Northrup, Samuel Westing, and J.J ford, "I am a licensed private investigator" (Raskin,191)

In Otis Amber`s delivery boy life, his relationship with Samuel Westing was that he had delivered cards to him from Plum, "Delivered letters from E.J Plum, attorney, both times" (Raskin, pg. 107) Also, in his private investigator life, he knew Samuel Westing because he hired him to investigate Crow, " "Twenty years ago, after his wife left him, Samuel W. Westing hired me to find Crow, keep her out of trouble, and make sure she never used the Westing name." (Raskin, pg.191)

Berthe Erica "Crow" Crow

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to other Characters

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to other characters

Christos "Chris" Theodorakis

Angela`s relationship with other characters is really strange. All of the other characters thinks she is sweet and pretty but she doesn´t like that because anybody appreciates her intelligence except for Turtle and Sydelle. Angela is Jake and Grace Wexler`s oldest daughter and she is Tabitha-Ruth`s sister. Dr. Denton Deere is her fiancé and future husband. Her relationship with her mom Grace is really bad as she only puts attention on her and doesn`t let her make her own decisions, "Angela-the-obedient-daughter did only what her mother told her to do" (Raskin, pg.69). At the end of the story she has a daughter named Alice.

Angela`s partner is Sydelle Pulaski. Angela and Sydelle have a very good relationship even though at first Angela was not happy of being with Sydelle as it says on page 35, 2but it was embarrassing being paired with such a...". Throughout the story they create a really strong bond. Sydelle is the only person (besides Turtle) Angela trusts. they spend a lot of time together and they defend each other. They even dress up the same in some meetings.

Crow was really frightening to the other characters. She always wore black and religious and everybody thought she was weird. Crow really liked Angela because she reminded her to her daughter Violet and she wrote her a strange letter, "It was strange letter, written intense and rigid hand: forgive me, my daughter, God bless you, my child. Delight in your love..." (Raskin, pg. 87) Crow didn`t have specially a good relationship to Turtle. Crow was Samuel Westing`s ex-wife and she is now married to Otis Amber.

Crow`s partner is Otis Amber. They have a great relationship. They fall in love throughout the story. Crow and Otis help at the Good Salvation Soup Kitchen. At the end of the story, they even get married, " "A toast to the bride and groom"..."to Crow and Otis Amber!" (Raskin, 207)

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Everyone felt sorry for Chris. Why would such a smart kid have such a disability. He was the suspect that nobody thought was the murderer next to Angela, "The excitement was too much for Chris Theodorakis. (that was one heir no one suspected. And Angela, of course, no one could suspect her.)" (Raskin, pg.116) Chris is son of George and Catherine Theodorakis and brother of Theo Theodorakis. He is really close to his brother Theo and Theo takes care of Chris a lot.

Chris` partner is Dr. Denton Deere. At first, they didn´t have a good relationship and Denton Deere ignored Chris and all he wanted was a friend, " How could he explain he wanted from his partner was companionship." (Raskin, pg.131) Throughout the story, the become more familiarized with each other and they become close friends, so close that Dr. Denton Deere helps Chris get a treatment to make his disability go away little by little. " "Listen, Chris, can you hear me' Just overnight. I found a neurologist, a nerve doctor, who works on problems like yours"..." (Raskin, pg.132)

Mr. James Shin Hoo

Crow is directly relationed to Samuel Westing, she was her wife. Crow used to be Mrs. Westing but when she was 40, they got divorced. It says on page 134 "Ex-husband`s name: Windy Windkloppel" and Windy Windkloppel`s second name is Samuel Westing.

Description:

Berthe Erica Crow is a very religious 57 year old women who is really seriuos and doesn´t talk much. She always wears black and she is really pale, "Crow`s clothes were black; her skin, dead white. she looked severe." (Raskin, 13) She works at the Wexler`s apartment as the housekeeper and she starts the Good Salvation Soup Kitchen, "Started the Good Salvation Kitchen on Skid Row..." (Raskin, pg.134) She was Samuel westing`s ex-wife.

Crow`s possible motive to murder Samuel Westing might be to steal his money and invest it to the Good Salvation Soup kitchen and also, get revenge because she was her wife and he blamed her for the death of their daughter, Violet. "For an instant their eyes met; then she looked away. A shy creature (or a guilty one)..." (Raskin pg. 14)

Partner and Relationship

Angela`s relationship to Sam Westing is that her mother, Gracie Windkloppel, is Samuel Westing`s niece and therefore Angela is her grad niece. Also, they say Angela has a great similarity to Violet Westing, "Angela looks like Violet Westing" (Raskin, pg. 117)

Relationship to other characters

A possible motive for Angela to murder Samuel W. Westing is to gain the inheritance because she is related to him and use the money to runaway from home to finish her studies for being a doctor because her mom doesn`t let her. Perhaps she wants to say no to Grace for the first time, "She should have said no just once to her mother, just once. It was too late now" (Raskin, pg.100) Also, she might have killed Westing to not be considered innocent anymore as she did with the bombing.

Clues:

Description:

Angela Wexler is very beautiful, blonde, sweet and inocent but she is never recognized by her intelligence only because of her looks. She is 20 years old and wants to be a doctor but her mother Grace doesn` let her and obligates her to marry the intern Dr. Denton Deere. She is the bomber of the story but nobody notices, "Angela could not be the bomber, not that sweet, pretty thing. Thing?" (Raskin, pg.152) nobody took Angela seriously and just saw her as a pretty object. After the game, she returns to her studies and did marry dr. Denton Deere and had a daughter named Alice.

Maybe a former farmer killed Westing. Maybe there`s someone´s past we don´t know about.

Mr. Hoo`s partner is Grace Wexler. At first, they didn`t like each other because of Grace`s attitude to him and her racist comments towards her wife but after Mr. Hoo makes Grace the Hostess of his restaurant "Grace Wexler tacked her sign... she was going to be the seating hostess." (Raskin, 72) things between there become to get better. Also, they start to talk about their children and parenting which makes their bond stronger and they enjoy spending time together.

The other characters think that he is the main suspect in being the murderer, "(Now, there's a likely suspect, Otis Amber thought. Hoo, the inventor; Hoo, the angry man, the madman.)" (Raskin, pg. 114) .Also they think he is a really strict man. Mr.Hoo is Doug`s father and Madam Hoo`s husband. He pushes doug into studying a lot and they say he married Madam Hoo because of her recipes. He is really jealous of the Theodrakis Coffee Shop.

Possible Motive

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Grace "Gracie Windkloppel" Windsor Wexler

Clues:

FRUITED, PURPLE, WAVES, FOUR, and SEA

Suspects to which clue might point:

Mr. Hoo and Grace think their clues point to the lawyer in the Westing will Ed Plum because as his last name is plum as a purple fruit he might be the murderer. Also, at the beginning Grace thought Mr. Hoo was a possible suspect because as their clues said he lived in apartment 4C (Four, Sea)

Prediction as to what clue might mean:

I think these clues might point to Sydelle Pulaski or at the event or story that Otis Amber told the kids the night of Halloween in which purple waves was involved such as in Sydelle´s dress she used to the reading of the will which has purple waves. I think that the clues Fruited , Four and Sea are just distractions to the real answer.

Possible Motive

Relationship to Samuel Westing

A possible motive for Chris to murder Sam Westing is to get his money and be able to pay his expensive treatment her mother could not afford any more,"...pricking doctors with their bad news that made his mother cry?..." (Raskin, pg.131)

Chris` relationship with Samuel Westing has to do with his dad. George Theodorakis, Chris` father, was the one Violet Westing really wanted to marry with and because her mother obligated her to marry other person she killed herself, "Father was childhood sweetheart of Sam Westing`s daughter...Violet Westing killed herself before the wedding." (Raskin, pg.143)

Partner and Relationship

Description:

Christos Theodorakis is disabled and has a disease called, "Pyramidal tract involvement" (Raskin, pg.29) He is 15 years old and lovs to watch birds from the window in his room, "slowly, taking great pains, he wrote Christos Theodorakis, birdwatcher. (Raskin, pg.25) He is always in his wheelchair. After the game, he becomes ornithologist, gets married, and his disease is almost disappeared.

Relationship to other Characters

Mr. Hoo`s possible motive may be for vengeance because Samuel Westing stole his idea for paper disposable diapers and took all the credit. Mr. Hoo was a great inventor. "Hoo sued Sam Westing over the invention of the disposable paper diaper. Case never came to court. Settled with the company last year $25,000. Thinks he was cheated." (Raskin, pg.101)

Mr. Hoo has bad blood towards Samuel Westing because long time ago he stole his invention of disposable paper diapers, "Hoo sued Sam Westing over the invention of the disposable paper diaper. Case never came to court. Settled with the company last year $25,000. Thinks he was cheated." (Raskin, pg.101")

Description:

James Shin Hoo or more known as Mr. Hoo owns a chinese restaurant first called Shin Hoo's restaurant and then changed by suggestion of Grace Wexler to Hoo`s on first. He is the one is first thought to be Westing`s murdurer because of his bad blood but throughout the story we notice he cannot kill even a bug. "(Now, there's a likely suspect, Otis Amber thought. Hoo, the inventor; Hoo, the angry man, the madman.)" (Raskin, pg. 114) He invented the paper disposable diapers and the paper innersoles.

Grace relationship to other characters is very delicate. The majority of them think that she is always lying. Mr. Hoo is her only friend. When she says she was the real heiress, a interior decorator, or even rich no one believed her because of her "show off" attitude. She is Jake Wexler`s wife and they have two daughters, Angela, and Tabitha-Ruth (Turtle). She has a lot of favoritism between these two in which Grace outs more attention to her daughter Angela ,

"Can't you see she's busy with Angela's wedding dress? And why must you wear a silly costume like that? Really, Turtle, I don't know why you insist on making yourself ugly." (Raskin, pg.12). Also, she is related to Sam Westing because her last name is Winkloppel and so is Sam Westing`s as Windy Windkloppel. She doesn`t really have a good relationship with his husband Jake as she claims he "is not a real doctor".

Grace Wexler`s partner is Mr. Hoo. At first, they were not very happy in being partners but then their relationship started getting better. They start to familiarize and have connections with each other when they talk about their kids together sometimes criticizing them and talking about their parenting. Mr. Hoo even asks for her daughter "Where`s your daughter the turtle?" (Raskin, pg.76) he would ask sometimes. Grace thinks Mr. Hoo is really a gentleman and a very intelligent person. Also, they start to get along better because Grace starts to work at his restaurant. "Grace Wexler tacked her sign... she was going to be the seating hostess." (Raskin, 72)

Hoo was a possible suspect because as their clues said he lived in apartment 4C (Four, Sea)" "For sea! The murdurer lives in apartment 4C!" " (Raskin, pg.53)

Prediction as to what clue might mean:

I think these clues might point to Sydelle Pulaski or at the event or story that Otis Amber told the kids the night of Halloween in which purple waves was involved such as in Sydelle`s dress she used to the reading of the will which has purple waves. I think that the clues Fruited , Four and Sea are just distractions to the real answer.

Possible motive

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Dr. Jake "Jakie" Wexler

Grace Wexler`s relationship to Sam Westing is that he is her uncle. Before being Sam Westing he was Windy Windkloppel and as we know Grace`s maiden name is also Gracie Windkloppel. " Grace Wexler`s maiden name is not Windsor, it`s Windkloppel... Berthe Erica Crow. Ex-husband`s name: Windy windkloppel." " (Raskin, pg. 139).

Grace Wexler`s possible motive might be that she might want to kill Sam Westing because as she knows she is the true heiress ,"Grace Windsor Wexler wrote housewife, crossed it out, wrote decorator, crossed it out, and wrote heiress." (Raskin, pg.25) she would get the whole heritage of 200 million dollars for her. As Mr. hoo says in pg. 55 "The murderer had to have a motive. How about this: a niece murders her rich uncle to inherit his money?"

Description:

Grace Wexler is Jake Wexler`s wife. She is approximately 41-45 yers old and very similar to Violet Westing. She has two daughters Angela and Turtle Wexler. She has a lot of favoritism between this two (she pays more attention to Angela), "Can't you see she's busy with Angela's wedding dress? And why must you wear a silly costume like that? Really, Turtle, I don't know why you insist on making yourself ugly." (Raskin, pg.12) Her maiden name is Gracie Windkloppel and she is very egocentric, selfish and racist as she says in page 29, "Grace was certain, J.J Ford could not be realated to Samuel W. Westing than Mr. Hoo". Even though she is somehow bad, she is really a business women. She claims to be an interior decorator but she now works at the "Hoo`s on first" restaurant by being its hostess. And after the game she is the owner of a chain of very successful restaurants.

Relationship to other characters

Partner and Relationship

Jake Wexler is not a really popular nor famous between the other heirs but he gained to be respected by everyone because he respects everyone as well. He is married to Grace Wexler and both have two daughters Angela and Tabitha-Ruth (Turtle). Her daughters don`t pay much attention to their father. Grace loves Jake but will never be happy of his financial situation because as she usually said being a podiatrist is not a "real doctor"". Also there was a time were the heirs lost trust in him when they found out he was a bookie, " "Go ahead and tell him daddy," Turtle said. "I know you're a bookie." " (Raskin, pg.90)

Jake Wexler`s partner is Madam Hoo. They get along really well as Jake always supports her and teachs her some English, " "Snow", said Madam Hoo. ... Jake followed her pointing finger. "That`s right, snow. Lots and lots of snow. Snow. Trees. Road. Lake Michigan." (Raskin, pg.69) They always got together at the Hoo`s on First restaurant and talked or tried to talk because as Mr. Hoo said in page 33, "My wife doesn`t even speak English".

Possible Motive

Relationship to Sam Westing

Alexander "Sandy" McSouthers

Jake Wexler possible motive for killing Sam Westing is to gain the inheritance. As his wife Grace is somehow related to Westing he might want to kill him to gain his wealth and gain a higher social status and a better financial situation and make her wife happy which is what he wants the most and feel important to her.

Jake is not directly related to Sam Westing but his wife Grace is as her maiden name is Windkloppel as Sam Westing`s original name Windy Windkloppel. " Grace Wexler`s maiden name is not Windsor, it`s Windkloppel... Berthe Erica Crow. Ex-husband`s name: Windy Windkloppel." " (Raskin, pg. 139).

Description:

Jake Wexler is a podiatrist and has a second occupation as a bookie. He has the same age as Grace around his mid forties (44 years old). He is married to Grace Wexler and has two daughters Angela and Turtle. He is really a nice and caring person with everyone and is mostly comprehensive because he always tries to help as he helped Madam Hoo, "Jake turned to Madam Hoo. "Hi there partner."..."She doesn`t even speak English dad"..."And she never will if no one talks to her"" (Raskin, pg. 69)

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to other characters

Sandy McSouthers partner is J.J Ford. They have a really good relationship because they spend a lot of time together investigating the other heirs. They have such good relationship and trust between each other that J.J Ford gives him her 10,000 dollars, " "No tips, judge, please, not after all you´ve done for the wife and me." The judge had given him the entire ten thousand dollars." (Raskin, pg.95)

Sandy`s relationship to other characters is really good. All of the persons in Sunset towers think he is a nice guy and specially Turtle. Turtle is almost his best friend from the beginning of the book until the end where she made him company until his death the Fourth of July, " "Turtle?" "Yes, Sandy" ... "Turtle, tell Crow to pray for me." ... Julian R Eastman was dead; and with him died... Sandy McSouthers" (Raskin, pg.216) As Sandy is Samuel Westing, then his ex-wife also is Crow.

Flora Baumbach

Clues:

SKIES, AM, SHINING, and BROTHER

Suspect to which clue might point:

Sandy and J.J Ford don`t really think the game is to find Samuel Westing´s murderer but to have vengeance and at first, by their clues they think the person Samuel Westing wanted vengeance was Dr. Sikes (SKIES=Sikes). But after they notice that the person Westing wanted vengeance was Crow because she was the one guilty for her daughter Violet suicide.

Prediction as to what the clue means:

I think the clues have to do something with Chris or Theo Theodrakis because they are both BROTHERs and Chris always sees the SKIES because he is a birdwatcher.

Relationship to other characters

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Possible Motive

Flora Baumbach has a very good relationship with the other characters because she is really a nice person that is always smiling. Turtle Wexler is like her daughter and she takes care of her really well. Flora`s husband left her , "...husband left her years ago, sends no money..." (Raskin, pg.123) when her daughter Rosalie dies at age 19 of pneumonia. She made Violet Westing`s wedding dress.

Flora Baumbach`s partner is Turtle Wexler. They have a really good relationship. They have the best relationship of all the partnerships, they have a mother daughter situation. As Grace doesn´t pay any attention to Turtle, flora is like a mother to her, ""My mother doesn´t think I`m beautiful." "Of course she does." " (Raskin, pg.75) Turtle even calls Flora Baba that sort of sounds like Mama.

Tabitha-Ruth "Turtle" "Alice" "T.R" Wexler

Even though Sandy McSouthers is Samuel Westing, one possible motive to murder him is because after 20 years of working in Westing Paper Products, he was fired by Samuel Westing and maybe he wants revenge, "Worked in Westing Paper plant 20 years. Fired by Sam Westing himself for trying to organize the workers. No pension." (Raskin, pg.147)

Sandy Mcsouthers is Samuel Westing. He is one of Windy Windkloppel`s four personalities or faces: Samuel Westing, Barney Northrup, Julian R. Eastman and Sandy McSouthers. "Her partner Sandy McSouthers, was the only heir she had not investigated. Her partner, Sandy McSouthers, was Samuel Westing" (Raskin,pg. 178) Also, as the character Sandy McSouthers, his connection with Samuel Westing is that he worked in Westing Paper Products plant and he was fired personally by Samuel Westing.

Description:

Sandy McSouthers is the Sunset Towers doorman. He is really funny and fun to be with- according to Turtle. He hears the gossip of all Sunset towers and he is really nice at every one. He is 65 years old and has a lot of scars and a chipped tooth caused by "carreer boxing". He is really poor. He is really not who he says he is, he is just one of Windy Windkloppel`s personalities or faces, "Some are not who they say they are, and some are not who they seem to be." (Raskin, pg.46)

Clues:

SEA, MOUNTAIN, AM, and, O

Suspects to which clue might point:

Flora and Turtle don´t think the clues point to a person but to the stocks in the stock market in which they should invest.

Prediction as to what the clue means:

I think the clue means or shows were to find the evidence of the Westing murder. It tells to hear the AM (radio) and go to the sea, mountains and maybe the O means oceans.

Partner and Relationship

Relationship to other characters

Relationship with Samuel Westing

Possible Motive

Turtle`s partner is Flora Baumbach. They have the best relationship of all the partners. Turtle calls Flora Baba that sort o sounds like Mama and she lied to her that her real name was Alice not Tabitha-Ruth. The have a mother daughter relationship because Turtle doesn´t have one with Grace, " "My mother doesn´t think I`m beautiful." "Of course she does." " (Raskin, pg.75)

Not many characters like her at the beginning of the story because of her impotent attitude and her constant kicking of shins. Doug is her friend and thinks that she is intelligent even though they are sometimes mad at each other. Turtle is daughter of Jake and Grace Wexler and sister of Angela Wexler which always defends and supports her and they both cover their backs as Turtle covered the bombing for Angela. Grace doesn´t pay any attention to Turtle and as it says on page 112, "Lucky Turtle, the neglected child". Flora Baumbach is like a mother to Turtle. Also, Turtle is really good friends with Sandy McSouthers.

Description:

Flora Baumbach is a lovely 60 year old women. She is a dressmaker and also like a mother to Turtle and she even calls her Baba. Flora Baumbach had a daughter named Rosalie who had down syndrome and died at the age 19 with pneumonia. She loved her a lot, "All mothers think their children are beautiful. Rosalie was an exceptional child, they said, but she was the lovingest person there ever was." (Raskin, pg.75) She is small, round and very nice. Also, Flora is responsible and cares take of the people around her.

A possible motive Flora might of had to kill Sam Westing even though she is such a sweet and kind lady is to take some of Westing´s money and reopen her dress shop she liked so much but she had to close "...sold bridal shop last year after Rosalie died of pneumonia..." (Raskin, pg.124)

Flora is connected to Sam Westing because she was hired to make Violet Westing´s wedding dress she never used, "Made wedding gown for Violet Westing, which she never got to wear." (Raskin, pg. 124)

I think the clue means or shows were to find the evidence of the Westing murder. It tells to hear the AM (radio) and go to the sea, mountains and maybe the O is for oceans.

Possible Motive

Relationship to Samuel Westing

Turtle`s possible motive might be to runaway from the house and have money to runaway with Flora because Grace treated her really bad, "Can't you see she's busy with Angela's wedding dress? And why must you wear a silly costume like that? Really, Turtle, I don't know why you insist on making yourself ugly." (Raskin, pg.12). Also she might kill Westing to earn gain the money and keep contributing to the stock market.

Turtle`s relationship to Samuel Westing is that her mother is her niece which makes Turtle his grand niece , Grace Wexler`s maiden name is not Windsor, it`s Windkloppel... Berthe Erica Crow. Ex-husband`s name: Windy Windkloppel." " (Raskin, pg. 139).and that her sister Angela is really similar to Violet Westing. Also, after the game she wins, she visits him (as Sandy) every afternoon and plays with chess. He finances her expensive education.

Description:

Tabitha-Ruth Wexler or more known as "Turtle" is a 13 year old girl with two long dark ponytails that hang from the sides of her face. She is not very pretty as her sister Angela. She is really corageous as she entered the westing mansion and she likes to kich shins if the touch her braids. She is a real business women as her short age as she has an interest is in the stock market, "Take stock in America, the will said. Go for broke, the will said. "In the stock marcket", Turtle said." (Raskin, pg.50) After the game she becomes a master at chess.
