The first public school Kindergarten was opened in St. Louis.

The first school to teach preschool age children is established by Johann Pestalozzi.

Father of Modern Education and was the first to recognize that the play of childhood was learning, produced the first children's picture book, "The World Illustrated".

President Obama passed the 'Preschool for all Initiative. It created high quality preschools nation wide. The Act promoted access to education for children under the age of 4.

Is created to help low income families get educations. It benefits schools by buying new and better materials and updating facilities. The act also created school lunch programs to help kids receive meals each day.

John Locke introduced the "blank tablet" and the environmentalism theory. This term meant that children were born with no knowledge. He believed that what goes on in a child's environment, is what the child learns.

Maria Montessori opened the Children's House in Rome.

Friedrich Froebel starts the "Children's Garden" or Kindergarten in Germany.

States that a child's mode of thinking is different than that of an adult because they learn through hands on experiences.

The 'No Child Left Behind Act was created to hold schools accountable for their teaching methods. For a school to be government funded, they must be tested and be adequate in their student's progress.
