How they overcame these challenges
- It was impossible for these new settlers to make it on their own, they desperately needed outside help.
- They received scanty help from Hibbat Zion but most of their financial help came from Baron Edmond de Rothschild
- Most of the people got jobs as construction workers
- Others worked on a citrus plantation
What challengers did they face?
- The climates of the two places were completely different
- Most of them were completely inexperienced in farming and considering the already harsh desert lands of Israel, they faced a major issue in this area
- They also dealt with diseases and constant Arab threat
What happened after the pogroms?
Three million Jews left Russia and 2 million went to the America and 30 thousand people went to Israel.
Thousands of other Yemen jews accompanied the Russians to Israel.
