The Western Cordillera is mainly made of newer mountains meaning that they haven't been broken down by erosion yet. Their mountains are twice as high as the east part of the Appalachian Mountains. They have many different ranges like for example, the west rivers drain to the pacific oceans, and the rivers east of the rocky mountains find outlets in the gulf of Mexico or arctic ocean.
British Columbia,Washington,Idaho part of Oregon, part of California,Alaska, the Yukon territory, Montana,Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico are a part of The Western Cordillera.

The weather in the western cordillera
is a maritime climate, but winters there are cool
due to the pacific ocean.
Climate
The west coast of the Western Cordillera has a maritime climate. It varies throughout the north and south. The west coast is moist and mild. Lots of parts are the wettest parts on our planet, Earth. Because of the Pacific Ocean the winters are above freezing. Summers are cooler than the inside of the continent. The valleys on the other hand are warmer than the mountain slopes and windward slopes are wetter than the leeward slopes.

Where is the Western Cordillera?
The Western Cordillera runs along the West Coast of North America. The Rocky Mountains are on the east side of the Western Cordillera. In the United States they cut inside of the continent. A lot of people who do live in the Western Cordillera live near the South side, in Vancouver area( West in British Columbia) The mountains that are in the east are fold mountains and the mountains in the coastal series are volcanic.

The vegetation varies from one side of a mountain to the other. On the moist side there are windward slopes, evergreens, Douglas fir, western hemlock, and western red cedar grow to a tremendous age . Some of these trees are as high as a 30- storey building. Higher up, the trees sizes decrease. on the leeward slopes, grasses and different types of cactus grow. Evergreens don't grow farther south, because the rainfall is less.
