Theory X & Y

Transformational Leadership Continued....

Theory X is a more authoritative and traditional style of management. This theory assumes that people are lazy and don't want to do work. These people will try to avoid the work as much as possible. They are directed, controlled, and threatened to get them to work.

Theory Y is a more dignified and enlightened management style. These people are happy to work, self-motivated, and creative. They enjoy working with great responsibility.

  • Motivates others to identify with and commit themselves to the group's mission
  • Usually natural extraverts, articulate high standards, inspire people to share their vision, and offer personal attention
  • Result is more engaged, trusting, and effective workers

Transformational Leadership

Transcend own self interests for the sake of the collective
