Trader's horse went missing and he blames the Nakoda
They were intoxicated and when they tried to negotiate they began to fight

Canadian public called for an end of the lawlessness in the Prairies
Americans thought that it was American frontier men facing the hostile savages while the Canadians believed that it was an attack by Americans on the innocent natives
Federal government already passed a bill to establish a police force on the west and the massacre forced the governemnt to begin recruitment
