The Second act: confrontation

The first act: Setup

  • American historical drama that is set in the time of Christ
  • Had the largest budget and set of any film produced at that time
  • Won an all time record 11 Academy Awards

Introduction:

The story is about the Queen wants t kill the Snow White, because she is prettier than her. And Snow White runs into woods and meets the seven dwarfs, and finally escapes from the Queen's killing.

The first plot point

  • Ben-Hur's life as a galley slave that his friend, Marsella, condemned him to
  • Plot Point 2: Ben-Hur saves Quintas Arias after their ship is rammed. They are the only two to survive the attack. Ben-Hur then returns to Rome as a hero and to face his nemsis, Marsella.

  • Climax: The 9 minute long chariot race where Judah defeats Marsella. As Marsella is dying, he tells Judah that his mother and sister are alive...but in the Valley of Lepers
  • The ending of the movie is the crucifixion of Christ. Judah realizes this is the man that saved him.
  • Right after he dies, Judah's mother and sister are miraculously cured of leprosy

  • Takes place in Kansas

Obstacle 1: Miss Gulch threatens to take Toto, leaving Dorothy feeling isolated and companionless.

Inciting Incident (Plot Point #1): Toto goes back to Dorothy, and they run away from home.

  • Dorothy Gale is swept away to a magical land in a tornado and embarks on a quest to see the Wizard who can help her return home.
  • The film won 2 Oscars for Best Music, the original song

Resolution: Dorothy clicks her heels together 3 times and says “There’s No Place Like Home.”

Introduce Character: Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, who wants to help Dorothy return to Kansas.

Raising the Stakes: Dorothy receives the Ruby Slippers to the outrage of the Wicked Witch of the West (formerly, Miss Gulch).

Inciting Incident: George Bailey is a good boy who always put himself before others, but now he’s finally saved up enough to go to college. He wants to get out of Bedford Falls, see the world, and really make something of himself despite his father’s plea that he stay and continue to help out in the Building and Loan.

-Originally seen as an unpopular film but was brought back years later and now remains an American classic around the Christmas season.

Midpoint: George was unable to avoid the sale of Building and Loan and Mr. Potter took over. George was attempting to convince the town not to sell their loans to Mr. Potter and is successful.

Culmination: George's Uncle Billy misplaces a $8,000 loan and it is recovered by Mr. Potter and instead of putting it into Building and Loan, Mr. Potter decides to keep the money in order to ruin the business. In doing so, Mr. Potter would bankrupt the entire town and George would go to jail. George proceeds to lose his mind and beats his Uncle, yells at his family, and gets into a bar fight and at this point he has had enough and wants to commit suicide in order for his family to use the money to save the town.

Plot Point 1: George's Father passes away and because George was leaving they were going to be forced to sell the Building and Loan to a cold-hearted man named Mr. Potter. George wanting to avoid this selling and all his father's hard work sold, decides to stay.

Resolution: His Guardian Angel grants him his wish of never wanting to be born, but when he see's how much the Town has been touched by his effort to save them he wishes he was alive again and things were back to normal and his wish is granted and all the people in the town chip in to save his business...
