The Geography of the Brazilian Highlands
The Brazilian Highlands is a mix of a plateau, grasslands, and various mountains. However, even though there are relatively rough surfaces, the majority of the land is grasslands, making it ideal for growing crops.
Ancient basaltic lava flows gave birth to much of the region. However, the time of dramatic geophysical activity is long past, as there is now no seismic or volcanic activity. Erosion has also played a large part in shaping the Highlands, forming extensive sedimentary deposits and wearing down the mountains.
The Brazilian Highlands are recognized for the great diversity to be found there: within the region there are several different biomes, vastly different climatic conditions, many types of soil, and thousands of animal and plant species.
The natives who live in the Brazilian highlands have taken part in their country's love for soccer. Although the land is rough and mountainous, they still find a way to play this sport-not on a team but together nonetheless. People who live here also take advantage of the landscape around them and tend to go hiking and mountain-climbing as a way of exercise for sports.

To get around in the Brazilian Highlands, people mainly use horse and mule-pulled buggy's, as well as boats for the rivers. Even though the Brazilian Highlands is a very mountainous region, there are roads so people also get places by foot, or walking. Occasionally you can see a car or bus making its way around the roads in the Highlands.
The clothing worn in the Brazilian Highlands is similar to that worn in the urban areas of Brazil. In these areas, most people prefer modern clothing. Young men wear jeans and T-shirts, while short skirts and dresses are very popular among women. Cotton clothing is common, and businesswomen usually polish their nails and wear light make-up in the working environment. The colors of the Brazilian flag are worn very rarely, for it's not a suitable combination. The traditional clothing of Brazil varies from region to region, but Brazilian clothes are comfortable, vividly colored, beautifully crafted and decorated with attractive accessories. However, since it gets a little colder and chillier up in the Highlands, warmer clothing such as light sweaters and pants are also worn.
Because of the limitations of the soils and the difficulty in farming them, the region supports only subsistence agricultural settlements. However, farming is really important and essential in the Brazilian Highlands. People in the highlands grow small plots of corn, barley, and especially potatoes on the high-altitude soils.
The Brazilian Highlands also constitute to the world’s primary coffee-growing region. More than one-third of the world’s coffee is grown there, along with soybeans and oranges.
Throughout the mountains, the inhabitants take up jobs in relation to tourism, since the highlands are a major attraction in Brazil. Another job would be owning a vineyard for a winery. The landscape allows for the grapevines to thrive and therefore be a way of industry, as well as some other forms of agriculture.
