Who

Etan Patz was a boy who lived in New York City

In the 1970s.

What

On May 25, 1979, on Etans' way to school that morning, he was kidnapped and declared missing 24 hours later.

Where

The incident took place in SoHo, New York City

When

The events of the kidnapping took place

during the early morning hours of May 25th, 1979

Why?

To this day, no one knows why

Etan Patz was the first "missing person" to be

put on the Milk Carton. The automatic assumption was that there are a lot of sick people in this world and, unfortunately, Etan was a victim of such crimes.

He was officially declared dead in 2001.

Timeline of Events

That morning, on Etan's first trip to the bus

stop for his school alone, he is kidnapped. He

is declared missing 24 hours later.

August, 1982

Jose Ramos, a friend of Etan's Babysitter

and a convicted sexual abuser, is chased through

Times Square and arrested for the killing of Etan Patz.

May 25th, 1983

4 years after disappearance

President Ronald Regan dedicates May 25th

to Etan Patz as "Missing Childrens Day".

May 7, 2009

30 Years After Disappearance

The book "After Etan: The Missing Child Case that Held America Captive" by Lisa R. Cohen is

published.

May 25th, 2010

31 Years after disappearance

Manhattan D.A. Cyrus Vance officially reopened the Etan Patz case to search for the killer more than they had done previously.

Present Day

On April 19, 2012, F.B.I. and N.Y.P.D. detectives and policemen began digging up the basement of 127B Prince Street located in SoHo, Manhattan. Etan's old neighborhood.

The basement had belonged to a man who had previous interactions with Etan as well as many others in the neighborhood at the time.

On April 23rd, 2012. The search was deemed inconclusive as no human remains were found at the site.

As of now. The case still remains unsolved as well as the stories of many other children who have gone missing.
