Social Studies Timeline

American Revolution

  • 1775-1783
  • The age where America was formed
  • The oldest signer of the Declaration of Independence is Benjamin Franklin(70), the youngest is Edward Rutledge(26).
  • 11,000 troops camped at valley forge, and 2,000 of them died frm diseases.
  • John Hancock had the biggest signature on the Declaration of Independence, and donated lots of his money towards aiding the American Revolution.

Scientific Revolution

Age of Exploration

  • 1500-1700
  • Journeys could take years
  • Disobedience led to harsh punishments
  • Crew was always working, no mater what
  • Scurvy usually took half the crew of the boat
  • Ships could be dangerously cold leading to the spread of typhoid fever
  • 1543-1800
  • The Scientific Revolution was simply, a revolution that changed how science was viewed
  • Some of the people who changed the view of science during this period in time were: Rene Descartes, Nicholas Copernicus, and Isaac Newton

Renaissance

  • 1300-1700
  • Means "rebirth"
  • People were secular during this time.
  • The rebirth of interest in art and learning.
  • Italian cities became very wealthy, and soon came to competing for being the best, leading to the Renaissance.
  • Venice was the richest out of these city-states.

  • 1517-1648
  • The reforming of Christian religion
  • People who supported changing Christianity were called the Protestants
  • The Protestants also broke off into many different tings, such as; Lutheranism & Calvinism
  • Martin luther started the Reformation with his 95 theses/ 95 things wrong with the church
  • Luther made Lutheranism, the most successful Protestant religion
  • 1478-1834
  • The Spanish Inquisition is a combination of Torture and the Catholic Church
  • a judicial law apparently established to combat heresy in Spain
  • 1650-1800
  • European politics, philosophy, science and communications were drastically renewed
  • Is also known as the Age of Reason
  • This is the age of Rouesseau, Voltaire, Buffon, Diderot, Frederick the Great, Thomas Paine, and Thomas Jefferson

Black Death

  • 1347-1750
  • The Black Death was a disease carried by rats that killed over one-third of the continent's population.
  • The Black Death is now known as the Bubonic Plague.
  • They thought the disease was caused by cats so they would often abandon or kill them, which doesn't make sense since they would help fight off the plague by killing rats.
