Drafting of the U.S Constitution:
Historical Lenses and History’s Value
Three Historical Lenses
Social Lens
Social Lens shows how our leaders came together to create a united nation. The drafting of the Constitution divided power among the Federal Government and states.
Economic Lens
Economic Lens was used to put the government in a stable financial basis. The constitution was used to strengthen the power of the central government. Checks and balances were also established in the Constitution to keep any one branch of the Federal Government form being able to have unilateral power.
Political Lens
Political lens was used to give us a view on the ones who have power and those who do not. This lens helps to make sure that no one is above the law and we are all following the same rules.
Even, in the past when many of our constituents or our Founding Fathers were very privileged; they understood the importance of freedom, equality and unity, making the new country politically stable based on their strong political structure.
Historical Narrative
The U.S Constitution was written in 1787 by James Madison and is the foundation and source of the legal authority. It provides the framework for organization of the U.S. Government and the supreme law of the United States.
The basic principals of the U.S. Constitution are Popular Sovereignty, Limited government, separation of powers and Federalism.
Our lives
The constitution was written to give all the people in the country a place of freedom, liberty and unlimited opportunity.
History's Value
If history is not recorded, we don’t have any facts to show how events in the past happened. Sharing of knowledge can help to keep future generations on course with ideas of the Founding Fathers values that the US was built on.
Does History Repeat Itself?
Yes. History always repeats itself. People don’t learn their lessons the first time. We would hope that after all the years people would use the past as a lesson and learn from the previous mistakes.
Does History Repeat Itself?
Things like war and spread of disease always find a way to come back around no matter how hard we try to keep the peace or come up with vaccines, there will always be people who feel the need to go their own way.
Are Citizens Obligated to Know History?
Citizens should be “obligated” to know history. that is absolutely, something that we should all want to know without having to be forced. History shows us how we have evolved. If more people were educated with History the same mistakes would stop repeating themselves.
We need to know about history; otherwise we won’t learn and will make the same mistakes.
