Increase Stacy's Range of Motion (ROM), Strength, Endurance, Kinematics, and Torque to promote independence by using adaptive/assistive equipment and compensatory strategies.

Case Study

Occupational

Adaptation Model

  • People have an inherent drive for mastery. A person is believed to be influenced by 3 systems:
  • sensorimotor, cognitive, and psychosocial

  • A person's adaptive capacity can be overwhelmed by impairment, physical or emotional disability, and stressful life transitions at any point in one's life.

  • Success in occupational performance is a direct result of the person's ability to adapt with sufficient master to satisfy the self and others.

(Cole & Tufano, 2008, p. 108)

A serve is a shot to start a point where the serving player strikes the ball into the diagonally opposite front side box (service box) without being stopped by the net.

History of Tennis

  • The game of tennis originated from Jeu de paume (game of the palm), a French sport similar to tennis where the players hit a rubber ball with the palm of their hands.
  • Later on, people replaced their hands and started to use a tennis racquet.
  • The world's oldest tennis tournament, the Wimbledon Championships, was played in London in 1877.
  • The United States Tennis Association (USTA) was founded in 1881.
  • The Woman's Tennis Association (WTA) was founded in 1973.
  • Wheelchair tennis was established in France in 1982
  • Divisions: Men singles/doubles, Women single/doubles, and quads single/doubles.

Objectives

Tennis can be played for leisure or other purposes, but in this presentation, it is directed to help Stacy to:

  • increase her participation that will benefit their health and well-being;

  • to take pleasure in playing, mastering, and socializing when engaging in a meaningful activity.
