Collaboration
Importance: Collaboration allows for varied expertise and perspectives about a student to be shared among those responsible for the student's learning and ell being.
HLP1: Collaborate with professionals to increase student success.
Collaboration with general teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff is necessary to support students' learning toward measurable outcomes and to facilitate students' social and emotional well-being across all school environments and instructional settings.
In Science class, the special education students have the ELA teacher, the Special Education support teacher and the Paraprofessional. The ELA teacher and the Special Education teacher along with the paraprofessional, all communicate and work together in order for effective learning to take place.
Assessment
HLP6: Use student assessment data, analyze instructional practices, and make necessary adjustments that improve student outcomes.

After special education teachers develop instructional goals, they evaluate and make ongoing adjustments to students' instructional programs.
In Health Class, the teacher adjusted the Calorie and Body type information assessment for the special education students. (observations and informal assessments were then utilized).
HLP4: Use multiple sources of information to develop a comprehensive understanding of a student's strengths and needs.
To develop a deep understanding of a student's learning needs, special educators compile a comprehensive learner profile through the use of a variety of assessment measures and other sources.
In the ELA class, the teacher gave special education students multiple ways to present their Book Presentations. (create a poster, Power point, group play).

Teachers should respectfully and effectively communicate considering the background, socioeconomic status, langauge, culture, and priorities of the family.
In the classroom, teachers can communicate other resources which can be of a greater benefit for the student . (transitional goals, assistive technology, behavioral, social).

Importance: To create an environment were students can feel comfortable, valued and respected. This environment is organized and rich with consistent learning practices.
HLP15: Provide scaffolded supports
HLP9: Teach Social behaviors.
Scaffolding supports provide temporary assistance to students so they can successfully complete task that they cannot yet do independently.
Teachers should explicitly teach appropriate interpersonal skills, including communication, and self-management, aligning lessons with classroom and schoolwide expectations for student behavior.
In Art class, Special Education students are with their peers. Many opportunities are presented were they work on appropriate social behaviors. Many targeted appropriate social skills such as communication, self-monitoring, peer interaction, and teacher-to-student interactions are visited and accessed. (peer interaction)
Instruction
Art Class: One point perspective
Some of the students could not draw straight lines with a ruler, the art teacher built a cardboard line maker. The cardboard line maker allowed the Special Education students to gradually work on drawing lines. The students used the scaffold Art support every time they had an art project that required them to draw lines. When art ended, the students were able to independently draw straight lines.

Teachers select and implement assistive and instructional technologies to support the needs of students with disabilities.
ELA Class: The students ELA project was to present a presentation on any president of the students choosing. The students gathered their chosen president's information and entered the information on their Chromebooks. The students needed an alternative to navigating through the Chromebook devices. The students were given a software that assisted them with creating a book about their chosen president. Book Creators software provided the students with an equal platform of learning while giving the students creativity and independence in completing their ELA projects.

HLP7: Establish a consistent, organized, and respectful learning environment.
Teachers should establish age-appropriate and culturally responsive expectations, routines, and procedures within their classroom that are positively stated and explicitly taught and practiced across the school year.
In Writers Club, Special Education students are welcomed, respected and engaged. They are consistently taught socially appropriate behaviors. They are provided a caring platform with their peers.
