How did the P.E.I colony feel about the Americans and why?
The P.E.I colony did not have any concern about the Americans because they thought that the British colony would protect them from any attacks. They wanted to stay in the British colony.
In what ways would the P.E.I colony benefit from Confederation?
What problems is your colony facing and why?
-debt from the attempted railway would be absorbed into Canada's national debt
-financial troubles; failed railway
-more trade and better relationships with mainlanders
-parts of land owned by Britishers refusing to sell
The Colony Of Prince Edward Island
-America, Britain and Canada were pressuring P.E.I to join them in turn
Today, Prince Edward Island is a gorgeous province of Canada, occupied by 145, 211 people(as of Jan '14). It is a major tourist destination and carries a lot of cultural significance.
What about the old Prince Edward Island, the colony that finally joined Confederation in 1873?
In what ways might the P.E.I colony lose it it joins in Confederation?
What resources does your colony exploit to help people live?
- they enjoyed their own small, private government
- they didn't trust the government. Land was taken from them when it should have been given.
-lose some of their trade relationships with the U.S and Europe.
Farming was the main industry in Prince Edward Island; they grew potatoes, apples, and other crops well on the rich, red soil. A small amount of people there fish for a living. P.E.I has a couple of natural harbors for large ships, making it easier to come and go from the island. They also built large ships.
-If they joined Confederation they would be completely crushed politically because they wouldn’t have much say since the government is rep by pop [representation by population]
We recommend that P.E.I does join Confederation because:
Conclusion
-they could have a voice in politics with the right leaders
-economy would be stronger; UK would be more accepting(bitterness etc)
The colony of Prince Edward Island should join Confederation as it helps them in more ways than it doesn't.
-hard to sustain population+ ship stuff back and forth
-protection from any attacks
