Liberal vs Conservative

The Liberal Party is a party which is very admirable. The history of the party in Australia has shown how one has to start from somewhere. This party is currently the one in power and very popular. We learned about the different parties in Australia beside the Liberal one.

  • These two beliefs are what make and break the Liberal Parties.

  • A Liberal (with the Liberal Party) is a person of liberal views in which is opened to new opinions and new ideas discarding traditional beliefs.

  • A Conservative (against the Liberal Party) is a person who is against change and holds to traditional values, and beliefs.

Present Prime Minister

Malcolm Turnbull was sworn in as the 29th Prime Minister of Australia on 15 September 2015.

Since entering Federal politics as the Member for Wentworth in 2004, Mr Turnbull has held a number of parliamentary positions.

Most recently, Mr Turnbull was Minister for Communications from 18 September 2013 to 14 September 2015.

Present Australian Government

  • The Liberal Party is in charge of the government.
  • The prime minister today is Malcolm Turnbull.
  • The governor in general is Peter Cosgrove.

  • Australia's government is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy

  • The Constitution of Australia establishes the government.

  • The leader is the Prime Minister which is helped by the Cabinet.

  • Australia has a general- Governor which is in charge of the Federal Executive Council and the Australian Defense Force.

In Australia there are three political parties which are:

  • The Australian Labor Party
  • The Christian Democratic Party
  • Liberal Party

Why are political parties essential for a democracy?

  • Political parties are essential for a democracy because in a democracy everyone has a say in the government.

  • Political parties organize the people's ideas and help them get heard by the government itself.

What is a political party?

  • Today's Liberal Party leaders are Malcolm Turnbull and Julie Bishop. These two leaders were elected on September 2015.

  • Malcolm Turnbull is the Prime Minister of Australia.

  • The president of the party is Richard Alston.

  • The party is the largest and dominant party in the Coalition with the National Party of Australia.

  • Today, the Liberal Party promotes economic liberalism.

A political party is an essential component of democracy that offer people meaningful choices in governance, political participation, and opportunities.

Beginnings of the Liberal Party:

  • In 1944, the first Liberal Party meeting was established.
  • Their leader was Robert Menzies. .
  • 8O men and women attended that first meeting.
  • By May 1945 the party already had 40,000 followers.
  • In 1949, the party had won the national government.

Purpose of the Liberal Party:

To fight for freedom of the individual and produce liberal policies. It focuses on life, liberty and property.
