The Respiratory and Circulatory System: How They

Work Together

1.How DO the respiratory and circulatory system work

together?

?

The Respiratory System

The Respiratory System supplies the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body.

  • Pharynx
  • Epiglottis
  • Trachea
  • Lungs
  • Bronchioles
  • Alveoli
  • Diaphragm

This greek word for "throat" is a cone shaped passageway that helps push food to the esophagus and prevent air from being swallowed.

The Epiglottis is a skinny plate of cartilage that covers the trachea during swallowing.

The tube going from the Larynx and branching into the left and right main bronchi is the Trachea.

The lungs are a very important part of the respiratory system. They bring oxygen into the body and remove carbon dioxide.

The bronchioles are the main passageway into the lungs in the bronchus.

The alveoli is an air cell of the lungs. It is formed by the dilation of air passageways. It absorbs air into the blood

Last, the diaphragm is a thin dome shaped muscle that helps you breath and separate the lungs from your intestines and stomache.

The Respiratory System supplies the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body.

The Circulatory System

The Circulatory System transports blood and oxygen from the lungs to tissues in the body.

  • Heart
  • Atria
  • Ventricle
  • Vein
  • Artery Coronary Arteries

Largest artery in the body,

carries blood away from the heart.

The superior vena cava is the large vein which returns blood to the heart from the head, neck and both upper limbs.

The inferior vena cava returns blood to the heart from the lower part of the body.

Prevents the back flow of blood as it is pumped from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery.

The artery that carries blood with low levels of oxygen from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs.

The aortic valve lets blood from the left ventricle be pumped up (ejected) into the aorta but prevents blood once it is in the aorta from returning to the heart

A vein that carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart.

The lower right chamber of the heart that receives deoxygenated blood from the right atrium and pumps it under low pressure into the lungs via the pulmonary artery.

The left ventricle sends blood to the aorta and the rest of the body.

The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it down into the left ventricle which delivers it to the body.

The right upper chamber of the heart that receives blood from the venae cavae and coronary sinus

How the systems work together

Some Key Parts of the

Respiratory System

The respiratory system and circulatory systems work together by the respiratory system making oxygen and the circulatory system using it to oxygenate the blood, then the circulatory system uses it to supply the body with blood.
