The Robe of Skulls

Summary

All is not well in the crumbling castle high above the mountain village of Fracture. The sorceress Lady Lamorna has her heart set on a new robe. It is a very expensive robe that is a skull-studded gown of deep black velvet, but her treasure chest is empty. Instead of canceling her order, Lady Lamorna makes up a plan to pay for the dress. To get the cash she will stop at nothing. With her badly treated servant Gubble, her evil plan includes kidnapping, blackmail, a couple of members of the royal party, some frogs and more than a little black magic.

Then there is Gracie Gillypot, a shy girl who spends most of her days locked up in the cellar under the stairs of her house. When she's not spending time with the spiders under the stairs she is running after her step-father, Mange or step-sister Foyce and doing whatever they wish for. When a talking bat ,named Marlon finds her one day, he promises her a better life and takes off. Days later he returns and helps Gracie escape. He's taking her to see the Ancient Crones, who will hopefully be able to help her with her wicked step-sister and step-father problem.

Last but not least there is Prince Marcus. Marcus is a rather curious prince who really doesn't want anything to do with royalty. The prince is unhappy with his royal expectations, preferring the dusty library with its ancient stories and interesting maps. When his twin brother, Prince Arioso is turned into a frog he is determined to find the person who committed this crime. Gracie escapes from her unpleasant home situation and meets Prince Marcus. Together Gracie and Marcus attempt to undo Lady Lamorna’s wicked plan and put her in her place.

Lady Lamorna's wicked plan is taken over by the even more wicked Foyce. Foyce is led to the house of the Ancient Crones where she will serve out her punishment weaving until all her wickedness has gone away. While Lady Lamorna returns to her castle she receives the robe of skulls. Gracie finds a new and happy home. Gubble the ill-treated servant of Lady Lamorna is replaced by Gracie's terrible step-father, Mange.

Lady Lamorna

Lady Lamorna is a evil and powerful sorceress. She lives high above the mountain village of Fracture.The sorceress Lady Lamorna wants an expensive skull-studded gown of deep black velvet.

Gracie Gillypot

Young Gracie Gillypot, a shy girl who spends most of her days locked up in the cellar under the stairs of her house. She lives with her step-father Mange and step-sister Foyce. She is like their slave and is badly treated.

Prince Marcus

Gubble

Gubble has been Lady Lamorna's servant for 170 years. He is in the story a lot being badly treated by Lady Lamorna.

Foyce

Foyce is Gracie's step-sister. She is a mean, evil, wicked girl. She always bosses Gracie around and makes her do all of her work.

Mange

Mange is Gracie's mean and cruel step-father. He makes her work a lot. If she is not working he locks Gracie in the cellar under the stairs. She cooks for Foyce and him. He is not a good person.

Marlon

Marlon is a bat. He serves as a guide a protector.

Millie

Millie is Marlon's daughter. She is also a bat and works as a guide and protector.

Prince Marcus is second in line to the throne of Gorebreath. He is a curious, more scruffy kind of prince. Marcus doesn't want anything to do with royalty.
