Up until the 1860's, the area was considered remote, so the town cemetery, called Cemetery Park, was located here. However, due to a cholera epidemic in the area, the cemetery was moved elsewhere because of public health concerns. Later, it was replaced to hold a city park, named Lincoln Park, after Abraham Lincoln. The neighborhood is named after the park.

Now all that is left is the Couch mausoleum, which is still there today.
In the 1950's, Lincoln Park became home to Puerto Rican immigrants because of the available jobs there, and the destruction of nearby neighborhoods La Madison and La Clark. The influx ended in the 1970's, because Mayor Richard Daley chose to make Lincoln Park more upscale, scattering the residents to search for housing elsewhere.
Now the neighborhood is mainly made up of yuppies, recent college grads, and young families. It is considered a wealthy area, with houses being bought for at least $1 million dollars. There is few reminders of the neighborhood's humble beginnings.
Following the Civil War, the area was home to Kashubians, hailing from what is present day northwestern Poland. In response, St. Josaphat Roman Catholic Church was established in 1883. It is still there today.
Lincoln Park is located on the North Side of Chicago, near Lake Michigan.
