How character contributes

The story jumps to ten years later and everything is fine.

The family hears a mysterious cannon shot and a british ship comes looking for Jenny.

The main character William, the father, contributes in almost every way. He made everything they have on the island, including homes, tools, weapons, and even a addling machine for a boat! ssThe only thing he hasn't made is the items salvaged from the shipwreck. William is innovative, strong-willed and crucial for the families survival.

Fritz, Jenny, and Franz (all being older now) decide to leave to England with the ship, but all the rest decide to stay because the island is their new home.

Character development

William nor really any of the characters develop much, other then physically, William has grown older but is in great health because of all the physical activities. He has grown stronger. There is hardly any, if any emotional development throughout the story :( Although they did learn how to better survive the wilderness.

Conflict

The conflict is, a Swiss family gets shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and tries to survive and eventually thrive. The island is very bountiful with useful items and plants, but can still be unforgiving. The island has dangerous animals and even more frightening is the typhoons in the rainy season. So the conflict is man VS. nature.

The Resolution

Climax

The climax of the story is after 3 years, the family finally starts to feel like the island is their home. They know where everything is that they need. They do what they have to do to survive and they have done that and now they see the island as theirs.

The resolution is when the English ship comes and they family has to decide whether they are going to stay on the island or return to England.

Fritz, Jenny, and Franz (all being older now) decide to leave to England. The rest of them end up staying on the island. The island has become their home, and they don't want to leave it.

Plot Summary

The family has been caught in a storm while on a boat. They survive and end up stranded on a deserted island.

The island has dangerous animals and even more frightening is the typhoons in the rainy season. So the conflict is man VS. nature.
