Yes - you can claim up to eight CM credits for your service on your local planning commission.
I live in a historic district and occasionally attend meetings of the Historic Preservation Review Board. Can I claim pro-bono CM credits?
No - you cannot receive pro-bono CM credits for attending meetings. Pro-bono CM credits are for activities that represent service to the community planning profession, such as active service to a local historic preservation group or holding a position on your Historic Preservation Review Board.
Pro bono planning service is an option within self-reported CM credits.
APA also offers opportunities to serve the planning profession and log CM for pro-bono service.
• In your CM log, credit for self-reporting will be identified with "self-reported" next to each entry.
• You may log a maximum of eight self-reported CM credits in a two-year reporting period.
• Pro bono CM credits must be claimed in one-hour increments. One hour of pro bono service will equal one CM credit (1 hour of service = 1 CM credit).
• Serving on APA/AICP boards, committees and divisions at the national, chapter and section level, including service to advance members’ professional development.
• Serving on an APA advisory committee or task force
• Service to other APA initiatives that rely on member volunteers
• You cannot receive direct compensation as part of your reported pro bono service.

Yes - as long as you did not receive direct compensation for your service, you can claim pro-bono CM credits!
Pro-Bono CM is Based in the AICP Code of Ethics
• Starting April 1, 2016, service activities conducted going forward will be eligible for CM credit
• You may self-report a maximum of 8 pro-bono CM credits.
• Law and ethics credits are not included.

• Serving on the boards of governmental or nonprofit organizations that advance planning.
• Educating the public and other activities that increase understanding of planning.
