Why did your parents choose your name?

My mother's full name is (Vanessa Michelle Flanagan) Frazier. She is named after my grandmother's favorite villain on the soap opera, All My Children. The character was Vanessa Bennet Cortlandt, who was played by the talented actress, Marj Dusay, from 1999 to 2002.

My mother was born on January 18, 1980 at 4:56 pm. She was born at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania. She is the sixth girl and seventh child born to her parents. Her older brother, Michael, was very upset that they brought home another sister. He wanted them to take her back.

My mother's family moved here when she was eight years old. Her dad was transferred from Saratoga Springs in upstate New York to New Jersey. He worked for Conrail as a railroad patrolman. They put all of their belongings into several moving trucks, squeezed into the car, and drove all they way to Swedesboro.

Her house was very crowded. There were only three bedrooms, one bathroom, and an attic. All the boys shared one bedroom and all the girls shared one bedroom. They stored all their clothes in the attic. The yard was fenced in. They lived next door to her mother's best friend who became known as Aunt Betty to them.

She went to St. Joseph's Catholic School for grade school and Kingsway Regional High School for junior and senior high school. Her best subject was math and her worst subject was creative writing. She did not attend college.

My mother has influenced my life in many ways. She taught me that family is important. No matter what happens, family will always be there to support you. She also taught me to recognize and ask for help when I need it. I've also learned that there's a lot more strength inside of me than I think because I have watched her pick herself back up when she falls.
