Genus Phascolarctos
Scientists tend to name organisms in both common names and scientific names usually in Latin based on their individual groups to avoid confusion and to correctly classify the organism.
Same as the Phascolarctidae
family the Phascolarctos cinereus is the only species in this genus.
It is the only one of it's species.
The Phascolarctos cinereus, or otherwise known as the Koala bear, was discovered in 1789 by a European explorer named John Price. Although currently not endangered, their numbers are decreasing fast. Phascolarctos cinereus have been known to eat a certain leaf called eucalyptus that has been proven to be poisonous to humans.
Anamalia
Phascolarctos cinereus belongs in the Animalia kingdom, this is due to the animal being a multicultural organism/ mammal.
