Jeb Stuart

-Born on February 6 1833 in Ararat Virginia

-Died May 12 1864 in Richmond Virginia

-James Ewell Brown "Jeb" Stuart was a U.S. Army officer that later became a general for the Confederate Army during the Civil War

-Full name James Ewell Brown Stuart

-Was educated at home until age 12

-Stonewall Jackson was shot in a friendly fire

-Died at the battle of Chancellorsville

-He was riding a horse and mistaken for a Union General

-Doctors cut off his arm and he later died

-Died in Guinea Virginia

-Jeb was a Son of War of 1812 Veteran

-Graduated at West Point Military Academy in New York

-While at West Point Stuart first came in contact with colonel Robert E. Lee who was appointed superintendent of the academy in 1852

-Assigned to Colonel Thomas J. Jackson's Army of the Shanandoah , Stuart was given command of the organizations Cavalry Companies

-He took part in the First Battle of Bull Run where his men aided in the pursuit of the fleeing federals

-In 1863 Stuart accompanied Jackson during the Latter's famed flanking March at the Battle of Chancellorsville

-He led his troops in the First Battle of Manassas

-Jackson launched the Valley of Virginia Campaign

-After several victories he joined Robert E. Lee's army in 1862

-Then from June 15 to July 1 1862 Jackson exhibited very poor leadership while defending Virginia's capital of Richmond

-At the Second Battle of Bull Run Jackson forced John Pope's Army to retreat

-Jackson achieved a whole new level of success after beating John Hooker's Army
