A few months earlier on May 22nd Nathanael Greene attempted to destroy the Brithish fort ninty-six but had to retreat. Just like that in the battle of Eutaw Springs, Greene was forced to retreat from the battle causing a British win.

The battle took place neer Eutawville South Carolina. General Nathanael Greene began the attack on Saturday September 8, 1781 at 4 in the morning. The battle of Eutaw Springs was a bloody battle with a British victory in the end. This battle was also the last battle for that year. Greene thought by taking out the one British camp (Colonel Stewert) he would end the British thret on the south.
