Three Laws of Motion

-Law of inertia

An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

-Law of acceleration

Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object).

-Law of action and reaction

For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action

Reflecting Telescope

Discovery of Calculus

-Used lenses

instead of

mirrors

-6 inches long and has 40x magnification.

-simplified a

earlier invention

-Developed what he called fluxions, which is now called calculus.

-This discovery allowed scientist to find the speed of ideas at any moment while in motion.

-Considered the idea variables can change over time.

-This discovery enabled other scientists to study and discover within a new field.

-Simpler telescope

wasn't fully excepted until

Newton published a book about it.

Universal Law of Gravitation

Theory of Light and Color

-Started when Newton observed an apple fall from a tree.

-Why are some things pulled to Earth and others are not?

-Used scientific method to find an answer

-This is the idea that objects are attracted to each other in a force that is equal to their masses divided by the distance between them.

- Complex mathematical equations

-Gained most knowledge through observations.

-He observed the affects a prism has on sunlight from several angles.

-Discovered that light its self is made up of multiple colors.

-Proved that light is not a mixture of 'lightness and darkness' as many previously thought.

-Proved Hooke's theory false.
