Coraline is a claymation/stillmotion
movie released in February, 2009. The
movie is also based off of a book with the
same title. Coraline was staged on a
140,000 square foot warehouse in
Hillsboro, Oregon. The stage was divided
into 50 lots, which contained nearly 150 sets.
Every object in the movie was
specifically made for the film. The
characters of Coraline could exhibit over
208,000 facial expressions. The movie
took 18 months to shoot total.
Behind the Scenes
Coraline is the story of a young girl moving to a new home with
her parents. Everything about the set is melancholy, from the
old design of the house to the color choices used in the film.
Soon, she discovers a door that leads to nothing but a brick
wall, but at night it leads to something much more; The Other World.
Every character plays an important role in the story, even a cat. The movie has a hidden meaning to it, "The programming of a mind control slave at the hands of a sadistic handler." The film also has a strange way of showing that not everything
is what it seems to be.
