- Ang kanyang asawa ay si Virginia Llamas.
- Ang kanyang ama na si Gregorio Romulo, ay nakipaglaban para makamit ang kalayaan ng Pilipinas mula sa pamumuno ng mga Espanol, sa pagsuko nito, hanggang sa panahon ng mga Amerikano.Namana nya sa kanyang ama ang malakas na paninindigan upang ipaglaban ang kalayaan ng bansang sinilangan.
- Noong 1982, pinarangalan siya bilang National Artist ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas.

- Isang Ilokanong ipinanganak noong ika-3 ng Disyembre 1924 sa Rosales, Pangasinan, na tagpuan sa karamihan ng kaniyang mga kuwento. Lumaki siya sa Baryo Cabugawan ng Rosales, ang bayan kung saan siya nagsimulang magsulat.

Francisco Arcellana
- Naging National Artist Siya noong 1990.
- Ipinanganak noong Speteber 6, 1916 sa Sta. Cruz, Maynila. Si Jose Cabaneiro Arcellana ang kanyang ama at si Epifania Quino naman ang kanyang ina. Pangapat siya sa 18 na magkakapatid. Nagtapos siya ng mataas na antas sa Manila West High School, kilala ngayun bilang Torres High School at sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas naman nya nakuha ang kanyang degree(pilosopiya) sa Kolehiyo at kalayunan ay nagaral din sa isang medical school.
- Napangasawa niya so Emerenciana Yuvencio at biniyayaan ng 6 na supling: Francisco Jr., Elizabeth, Jose Esteban, Maria Epifania, Juan Eugenio, Emerenciana Jr.
- Habang nagaaral siya sa medical school, nagtrabaho siya bilang isang columnista sa Herald Midweek Magazine. Pagkatapos ng gera, bunmalik siya sa UP Department of English and Comparative Literature. Naging tagapayo ng Philippine Collegian at direktor ng Creative Writing Center noong 1979 hanggang 1982.
-Sinimulan nya ang pagpapaunlad ng maiikling kwento. minsan nya sinabi na "that it is able to render truth, that is able to present reality". Kilala siya bilang isang manunulat ng mga kathambuhay na istorya.

-sa karagdagan pa nito bilang isa sa mga panghunahing sulatin ni Joaquin, itong kwento ay itinuturing na kontrobersiyal.
- Ang kwento ay tungkol sa seremonyang ginagawa ng mga kababaihan upang tumawag sa mga diyos sa pagpapala ng pagkamayabong sa pamamagitan ng pagsasayaw sa paligid ng puno ng Balete na may isang siglo-lumang.

- Naging orphaned noon siya pa lang ay isang taon gulang sa dahilan na ang kanya ama, Timoteo Lumbera, ay nahulog sa puno at nabali ang kanya likuran at ang kanya nanay naman na si ,Carmen Lumbera, ay namatay sa kancer at ang kanya lola na ang naghalaga sa kanila ng kanya kapatid hanggang namatay ang kanya lola at mga kamag-anak ang naghalaga sa kanila.
- Nag-aral siya ng Bachelor in Literature at Master Degree sa University of Santo Tomas noon 1950 at nagakaroon ng Ph. D in Comparative Literature sa Indiana University noon 1968
