Water
Nucleic Acids
- Proteins are organic, for they have carbon.
- They build the cells in organisms, and make enzymes and hormones, which are important in your body.
- The monomers of proteins are called amino acids.
- Water is an inorganic molecule, for it has no carbon.
- Water is a molecule because it has two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom and the two are bonded in a V-formation. The bond is a covalent, meaning that they trade and share their bonds to fill or get rid of their outer shell.
- The oxygen atom on the molecule gives off a slight negative charge, while the electrons give off a slight positive charge, therefore making it polar on both ends of the molecule.
- Oil is a hydrophobic molecule. This means that it won't mix with water.
- Nucleic acids are organic, for they have carbon.
- DNA is your genetic code that you inherited from your parents. RNA copies RNA and takes it to where it is necessary.
- DNA has two strands (double helix), while RNA only has one (single strand).
- The building blocks are nucleotides.
- They are important because without them, we would all be and look the same. (It is what separates us from being a tree)
- C, H, O, N, P -> Nucleotide -> DNA molecule -> Nucleic Acid sequence/chain
Carbohydrates
- Carbohydrates are organic. They have carbon.
- Carbohydrates are used as quick energy source and dietary fiber.
- The monomer of carbohydrates are monosaccharides.

- MY MIND!
- Lipids are organic, for they have carbon.
- The function of a lipid is to make energy.
- Hydrogen and oxygen make up of a sugar (glycerol) and three fatty acid molecules.
- Saturated lipids have the max amount of hydrogen atoms, and are more detrimental to your health than unsaturated lipids, which are healthier and have less hydrogen atoms.
Additional Notes
- The polymers of protein are amino acid chains.
- The polymers of carbohydrates are polysaccharides.
- The polymers of a lipid are fatty acid chain.
- The polymers of nucleic acids are phosphate groups, sugars, and nitrogen bases, which make up nucleotides.
- We feel like all of the molecules are very important, but we wouldn't exist without our DNA, but all are too important to leave one out of the picture.
- See PPT for pictures of these molecules.
